I think I'll try broody jail. The Eglu coop has a set up where there isn't a "roost" necessarily. It's more of an area with slats next to a flat area for nesting. She just sits there until I take her out. She seems normal otherwise and is definitely higher on the pecking order.
My 9 month old silkie is possibly broody but I'm not sure because this is my first batch of chickens. She sits in the coop (Eglu Go) a lot but not on the nesting area, on the roosting area. She'll get up and come out to join the others to free range, eat, and drink. If I pick her up and put her...
Okay thank you! I put some VetRX on her and she seems to be feeling a little better. She ate some scrambled eggs and a little bit of water. She hasn't been around any other flock besides her own. I'm going to keep an eye on her in quarantine.
Hi, I woke up this morning to let my 5 girls out. One of them, a 16 week old showgirl, stayed behind in the coop and was making this weird wheezing/mewing noise. She was fine last night when they went to bed. Now it's been two hours and it looks like she's still having a hard time breezing. Her...
Hi - I have five silkies. Three are laying and two are still young at about 2 months. I have two Eglu Go coops. The three older ones usually go into one and the two younger ones are supposed to go into the second one. The younger ones just decided they wanted to integrate themselves into the...
I originally thought they were pecking wounds but the person I got her from told me she found an outbreak of fowl pox in her flock a few days later.
She has a naked neck and the scabs were mostly on her neck. I didn't see any on the face. She doesn't really have a comb or a waddle yet. The...
Hi all, new chicken owner here! I have an 8 week old showgirl who had scabs on her neck from dry pox which have started to fall off. Now she is sneezing, hardly eating/drinking, and shaking her head. I did see her eat and drink a little bit not as much as the others. She's not as active as she...
Hi! I'm new to chicken keeping. I have three (for now) sex-linked silkie hens. They are about three months old. I noticed that one of them has a couple of red spots underneath her chin and on the side of her head. The other two don't have this so I was wondering what's up with that? Is she okay?
