Hi, I have nine birds, and they are pretty rowdy when they get out in the morning, looking for food. Plus a couple of them seem to eat most of the day. I’m wondering how it would work if only one or two birds can get to the food at once?
Thanks so much for this Mary! I’m a bit clueless, so I hope you don’t mind me asking silly questions. What is the purpose of the hardware cloth over windows and upper venting?
Again, clueless question. I’m assuming the disproof base is to stop rotting and weakening the protection of the shed...
Hi, I’m a new chicken keeper and last week got myself seven gorgeous girls. However, today I realised my house is too tiny - by far. I’m now looking to buy online and can’t really find any that are big enough, and within my price range (ideally under £200) and deliver to Northern Ireland.
So...
I can’t overstate how much I appreciate all your considered responses, and am so glad I asked the question here!
I’ll move without delay to get a bigger house for my lovely chooks, and it is so great to get specific info. I wish I were handy enough to make it myself but I’ll the specifications...
Okay, I think I’ll need a new house. How urgent do you think this is? Will they be okay huddling up through the winter, or is this really cruel?
Sorry if these are silly questions but I’m really green!
My chickens are pullets, at Point of Lay asI understand. I have only had them a week. It is possible that they haven’t worked out the perches are there yet...
I’m thinking now my house is too small and they don’t have enough room to get up and down. I bought it second hand and was told it would fit 6-8 birds, but I think I may have been misled.
It is hard to get photos of the perches that will bring any clarity. It is 4ft x 4ft excluding the nesting...
I am a besotted new chicken keeper with seven lovely, funny birds, but a bit worried that they don’t like their house!
I bought it second hand and it seems fine, only they don’t seem to have found the perches and fall asleep in a heap on the floor, and the nesting box.
The perches seem quite...
Della, thanks for your detailed reply. All very useful.
We live in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and are really looking for chickens to lay eggs. I think probably no more than 4 chickens, if they are laying okay. 24 eggs a week would be more than enough. We probably will enjoy them as pets - but I...
Thank you all so much for your replies!
They have been very instructive. I will get them as large a run as I can, and then let them out under supervision for at least an hour a day. As I am planning a lot of raised beds for veggies, I'll try to build a moveable run that will fit on the beds, so...
Hi, we are considering keeping chickens. We have recently moved house to get a garden for kiddies to play in and to grow vegetables and flowers. We'd also love to keep chickens but don't think we could let them range free around the garden - mostly because we don't want the plants wrecked, but...
