I while back I posted about my broody hen and how she was so eager to hatch. Since that day she has still been broody and I have no Idea what to do. I have taken her eggs then have let her laid them, i've separated her then put her back, I've even hand fed her in fear that she'll starve. She...
UPDATE:
Sorry for the late update!!So it turns out she eat something bad. I had quarantined her and then the next few days I saw she had normal poop, like healthy normal chicken poop. She's doijg much better now, I cleaned all of their bowls of water and I'm keeping a close look on her health...
I need help ASAP. I have this 1-2 year old silkie and she has been fine until now. This morning she was her usual active self, eating, drinking everything. I came back from school and I find her isolated and in position to lay, which isn't odd since she's a hen. But she stood up and pooped this...
Wow! Her name is macy but her sister Stacy has a really beautiful comb it even folds to the side and she's a hen. Thanks! I had heard it was rare but never paid attention.
Hi! I have had this hen for 2 years now and never knew her breed. The place where I bought her from never told me what breed she is. (Sorry if I'm holding her wrong, she's really fat and heavy.)
I put one egg from my silkie and she immediately adjusted it under her. She seems happy and I haven't disturbed her or anything. Thanks for the idea, she has had a chick before and she took very good care of it, so i'm sure she'll be a good mom. When do you think I can introduce the chick to the...
Aww they're so cute! I love the color. I actually did put a round rock under her and it did help but I took it away in fear that she'll stay in the nesting box forever, so I will definitely put something underneath
When we got Batman he was just a little chick. We brought him with his sister which unfortunately passes way and Batman was devastated for a few days and then became a boss. He watches out for the hens and chicks, he crows in the mornings and flaps his wing to "assert dominance".
Yes! I do have a rooster and she is currently with him, every time she leaves the nesting box he'll fertilize her. So yes the eggs are fertile. The only reason I dont let her eggs hatch is because her mixed breed has a tendency of being aggressive and not having good temper.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I can say I am intermediate with chickens. I have owned chickens for the past 2 years and found that they are great animals.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I own approximately 12 chickens. They are very nice chickens...
I have two separate coops, one is with my goats and the other is plain chickens. I have this hen (she is part silkie and another breed im not familiar with) she has always been really active and never has caused any problems until now. I stared seeing her being in the nesting box ALL day. When...
