    Help with my Blue Orpington

I have two Black australorps. One likes to jump up on my lap and survey her surroundings, like she is queen of the backyard. She likes getting some scratches/pets while doing this. When she's had enough, she very gently gets down. Very sweet and gentle. The other one doesn't mind being picked up...

Official BYC Poll: How do you name your pet chickens?

My husband said that my son and I bicker with each other like the Golden Girls. So I named the chickens Rose, Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia. He loves Seinfeld so one was named Elaine. My parents surprised me with two chickens from farm and fleet. They are named Cousin Eddie and Aunt Edna.

    First Egg :D

Congratulations to both of you for those first eggs! Always exciting and surprising when it finally happens. I've found I still love being outside when a lady lays an egg and I get to hear the egg song. It took me a couple days before I'd eat the eggs too. I was like, hhhmmm, I know exactly...

    Help with my Blue Orpington

I will say, HeiHei was very flighty and skittish until she started doing the submissive squat. Since laying, she has chilled out and gotten a little friendlier. Her comb and wattles developed at a later date and stayed pretty pink/tan until a couple of weeks before she started to squat. Then the...

Hi there. I got a blue orpington from Meyer, hatched on March 11th. Here are some pictures for reference. They are spanning from March 18th to end of April. My girl was very slow maturing and just started laying eggs about a week after Labor day. Beautiful big light brown eggs!

    First Eggs!!

Beautiful eggs! Congrats on those first ones. I put golf balls in the nesting boxes and I can verify, that worked. Had moved the golf balls to one box, not the 'favorite' box. Ended up with eggs in box with golf balls.

Shell less egg from new layer

Thank you for all of the responses and suggestions on what to do. I followed the advice given...the results, 5 eggs in one day! 2new laying pullets with normal looking eggs! No more rubber eggs at this time. I've got 2 pullets that could lay at any point, so excited to see those eggs. Thank...

Shell less egg from new layer

I had my first pullet start to do the submissive squat on 07/07/24. When I saw that, I've provided oyster shell in a separate dish since then. Just tonight I sprinkled some on the ground too.

Shell less egg from new layer

I didn't cut into the yolks before throwing them away. The first one seemed more of a mucous consistency. The second one...I just saw that, snapped a picture and tossed it. Kinda grossed me out. I've sprinkled some oyster shell down on the ground. I had seen some of the pullets eating it...

Shell less egg from new layer

I've got a pullet that just started to lay a couple days ago. The first shell-less egg was on July 28th. Small but squishy membrane. I cut it open and it had an egg white and a 'weird' blob of a yolk. Not sure I'd actually call it a yolk. This was laid in the middle of the run. Today on the...
