She may have had two eggs in the oviduct track at once and once the outer most one released, the second one was laid. I've had similar things happen, including the watery poops following. Keep an eye on her stool and if they seem to be getting more red, I'd definitely keep on the antibiotics...
You all are the best and I would really appreciate your input here. I have a 2 year old EE who I believe has salpingitis. The progression of symptoms were a soft shelled egg, then an egg with no shell, then what I believe was a lash egg which was expelled with a lot of fluid. She eats...
I'm not sure what to do next and would love some input. I have 3 one year old layers, EE's, and three 15 wk chicks, 2 Buffs and 1 RIR. I've got a 30 sq foot coop and 100 sq foot attached run with a roof. They also have 40 + sq feet of outdoor, run with net covering. I introduced my started...
I haven't had any issues with the door not opening on cloudy days and we've had quite a few since I installed it. We actually had over a week of solid rain and clouds and it opened and closed as it should.
Thank you all for your replies! My new coop was finished in July and I ended up getting a Ladies First door. I love it and has worked like a charm so far. It does take a bit more vertical space because it has a larger opening but that wasn't an issue for me. It comes with the solar option...
Unfortunately the vet in my area that handles poultry has exorbitant prices. Thank you @Eggcessive for your advice! I’ll stay on the corid and reduce to 1/2 dose for another 5 days …. And get some probiotics into the mix.
So a little over a month ago, I had a major bloody stool, intestinal lining thing hit my flock. I put them on corid; 1tsp per 1 gal for the 7 days. I could still see some blood so treated them again : 2 tsp per gal. with NutriDrench. From there, I had one or two with foamy poop and some...
Update and a little more advice if I may....
So the grand adventure of integrating the chicks began and the first step was to do as @SandyRiverChick suggested and stage a meet and greet area. I've attached a picture of it in case any other people are starting this process. The green looking...
I really like your suggestion about a mutual meeting area. Unfortunately I don't have enough fencing to do an area around the whole coop, but I could definitely have a space that could connect the two doors. I think that may be the best way to do this. Then they can be together but retreat to...
Thanks for your input! Unfortunately they can't free range because of the predators here. And I planned on getting a larger tote that I'd turn upside down and cut a small door shape out of it. And I was anticipating doing just as you said with the opening being the right size for the chicks...
I'd love your input based on your experiences. This is the first time I've gotten new chicks to add to my flock and I want the process to go as smoothly as possible. I have 3, 10 wk old chicks and 3, 1 yr. old layers. They are in separate coops but the coop and attached run that the chicks...
Thank you @HollowOfWisps. You were absolutely correct. I started them on Covid right away because the med you suggested was going to take over a week to get to me. The following day, the stool was a lot better and then the following day, there was a lot more which led me to believe the other...
Happy Monday Sue! I hope your littles are doing well. How are you making out with your coop? Mine are finally on the mend after a bout of cocci (not fun btw). Are you liking the auto door?
Thank you so much! I'll have to see where I can get that. The coop with the chicks is adjacent to the coop with my older hens; about 6 inches between them. Should I relocate the chick coop?
I have 7 wk old chicks that I believe have worms. I'll be picking up Valbazen today. What dosage should I give them? They're buff orpington and a Rhode Island Red
I have 3 chicks that I've had for a week and who are now 7 weeks old; 2 Buff Orpington's and a Rhode Island Red. I also have 3 adult hens who are in a separate coop / run from the chicks. Since the chicks have been here, the 2 Buffs appear to be molting; they are all feathered with the...
