Hey all, so I give my flock milk all the time, however this morning on the news I heard that the Avian Flu has been spread to milk, so I am now very concerned. The last time I gave them milk was about 2 days ago, and I'm just wondering if this is something I should be worried about. And I've...
I'm not sure who layed this, and I feed them an all flock feed, with plenty of oyster shells for calcium. Whoever layed it has layed perfectly fine eggs previously. Just want to make sure this isn't sign of infection, and that it's just a rare occurrence. Thx.
Hello all, good afternoon! I just went out to collect eggs, and I found one that looks watery, as if the shell hasn't fully formed. I attached some pics, and I'm not sure whether I should be worried or not. I'm not sure who layed this, and just want to make sure that it's not a sign of...
We don't really have any chicken wire that she would be sticking it through. Half of their run has chicken wire, but there is no reason she would be pecking through it. I am concerned that it is some sort of illness or infection .
Hello everybody!
So a few months ago my 1 year old hen Juniper was getting mounted by the head hen, and badly had feathers missing from her back. 3 weeks ago I finally noticed that other hens were starting to miss feathers too, and then saw my head hen mounting them in the coop. I have now...
This is still going on, and I am going to separate her today or tomorrow. By now most of my flock has feathers missing on their backs. If anybody has any other suggestion to avoid having to rehome her, that would be very appreciated:)
Hello all, my 3-year-old Buff Orpington, Buttercup, has recently started to act as a rooster. I was out with them today, and I watched as she mounted one of the younger and weaker hens, then I pulled her off and came back later and she was doing it again to a different hen that is her same age...
They have plenty of shade that stays all day. I was just worried because the seemed uncomfortable at night, and I think there might be some ways to keep them cooler. Thanks for the tips!!
They are holding their wings away from their bodies. Outside the coop during the daytime ranges from 85 to 95. They do pretty well during the day and have plenty of cool fresh water. I have 16 new girls, and they are the ones that have a hard time. I've got one 9 year old, who is pretty...
My hens are sleeping in their coop, but there is continuous panting, and the coop temperature is 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Their coop is well-ventilated, and I have a fan blowing to circulate the air. Just wondering if any of you guys had any ideas to help keep them cooler at night. Thanks!
that sounds like a great idea. he needs to be put in his place and taught not to be a bigshot. your chickens will figure out their pecking order sooner than later.
