Have a question maybe someone can answer

I am using a chickcozy incubator. But I can understand the hotter and cooler spots in the incubator. Witho our weather we've been having lately (in SC) trying to keep the temp where it needs to be and the humidity has been somewhat problematic.

Have a question maybe someone can answer

I have been raising domesticated mallard ducks for almost 4 years now. This year some of my girls have continued to lay even through the cold days (finally slowed down but haven't stopped completely yet). I incubate the eggs because they feel the need to share nests and when a few ducks hatch...

Not sure what this is or what to do about it

Thank you. I was quite concerned. I've hatched off over 60 babies since March and this is a first, so was worried. I'll definitely keep an eye on it. Should I keep it separated until it is fully absorbed? It has 3 hatch mates that it is separated from.

Not sure what this is or what to do about it

I have a duckling that hatched late last night (shortly after midnight this morning actually). I left it in the incubator to dry. This morning he's dry, but he has something attached to him on the outside. I've never seen it before and I have no idea what it is or what to do about it. Please...

Thank you for the explanation on exploding eggs. I did not know that. 2 generations on the ducks. We sell the ducklings at 2 days old to our local feed store.

    Question about Duck eggs/hatching

I have been raising ducks for about 3 years. I have 11 females that are laying age. From late March to early June between a few girls sitting and me incubating we hatched 64 healthy ducklings ( I lost count of the amount of eggs)...but they are still steady laying. I've continued putting them in...

    Ducks and Nesting

Can you use "fake" eggs in a ducks nesting box to get them to use the nesting box for laying eggs?

Is this a particular type of chicken or just a mixed breed

I got them earlier this year from a guy up the road from where I live who bought fertile eggs and hatched them off.

Is this a particular type of chicken or just a mixed breed

In this picture there is a hen in the back near the chicken door with a red head and a grey backside. Is this a particular type of chicken or just a mix breed? I have like 3 of them like this. Thanks.

Question about Mallards...I'm still a newbie

I thought about that, but I was concerned if I ran her off her nest to candle the eggs, if they were still viable, would she return to the nest to finish setting?

Question about Mallards...I'm still a newbie

I have a pair of mallards that I hatched in an incubator last year. They hatched around July 7. Male and Female. She hatched off 9 of the 18 eggs she laid in mid April this year. 7 survived and are doing well in the pen with the male and female. She made another nest in the same spot, laid 11...

    Question about Pekin duck

I do have other ducks. I have mallards but they are in a separate enclosure than the Pekin...the Pekin (we call her Ms. Duck Duck) doesn't really like other fowl in her enclosure...she prefers to look at them through the wire.

    Question about Pekin duck

Other than not laying, she's doing well. Acting normal. "Talking" to me. She's in a pen (she has a bad leg...had it when we got her) but she let's me know when she wants something...usually fresh greens...and she gets them. She's a sweet little duck.

    Question about Pekin duck

We "adopted" a Pekin duck (hen) when we bought some chickens from an individual. They never mentioned how old she was. She was laying eggs. We have had her now for about a year and a half. She hasn't laid an egg in at least the past 3 weeks. She's acting normal otherwise. About what age do ducks...

Mama duck with babies laying eggs again

She is still with the babies. She is still laying eggs but not always in her nest. I find them all over their enclosed pen. But she and the babies seem to be happy and healthy. The drake is in the pen with them but he doesn't bother the babies. Thank you for your insight though on that, in case...

Mama duck with babies laying eggs again

The ones that she laid in the middle of her pen, I collected. My preacher likes them. I prefer our chicken eggs over the ducks eggs...They don't go to waste though.
