I went with two RIRs and two Blue Lace Wyandottes! Found a local farm over by us and they were about 13-15 weeks old when we got them. They are adjusting well!
I didn’t even think about the local 4H or even FFA! And I live in a very farm town, the downfall is I don’t have Facebook so I’ll have to bug my husband for his again lol
We have a spot in our garage that we can quarantine if needed, but I agree that with one pullet remaining she should be...
You are so kind! Thank you!
It definitely has been hard knowing 5/6 are roosters. We can’t have roosters here so as we continue to look for homes we have one on our BR Roo Salt, but may have to dispatch the RIR roo now as meat.
I have been researching local farms but no luck lately :(
I have definitely looked at that thread for sure. Sadly, we posted them on FB and Craigslist and no takers, I noticed a lot of posts with rehoming Roosters as well. We were only able to rehome the very first rooster that started crowing 4 weeks ago. We have already dispatched two of the others...
So I’ve posted a few times about my BYC and if they were roos vs hens.
I must have some bad luck as a beginner because all three of the RIRs that TSC advertised and sold were supposed to be pullets and all three ended up being Roos. I had hope that the last RIR that we have was a hen because...
We officially have eggs! The girls hit 16 weeks on Monday and on Tuesday I found a tiny brown egg in the nesting! Since then, I have found one a day! ❤️ I believe it’s our BR that is laying, but maybe our RIR is too! It’s hard to tell for me since they both have brown eggs! But I’m so happy!
We started our BYC journey in March with three RIR and four BR. Unfortunately, one of the BR passed away shortly a few days later to unknown reasons. But everyone else thrived! As they got older we realized that one of the BR was a rooster (Basil), but were told by TSC that all the RIR were...
Hello! We just rehomed our Rhode Island Red rooster and suddenly our other RIR that we were convinced was a hen started crowing as well. I’ve attached a picture because she definitely looks like a hen … TSC also told us that all the RIRs were guaranteed pullets …
Hello! I am now officially switching to sand vs pine shavings in the girls coop now that they have entered their sassy teenage stages. I found one at TSC, but it doesn’t define if it is medium to coarse grit. Would this be okay?
The coop would be the only area getting the sand, their run is...
Okay, yay! Thank you! They still have access to their chick grit and fresh water! On top of the clover treats and slowly introducing some mealworms as well! So thank you!
Update: they did not enjoy the romaine lettuce 😂 I mixed some of the clover which they love in with it, and they picked all the clover out and left the lettuce.
Hello! Just want to spoil the girls we have, but get mixed reviews on giving them some of our extra cooked sourdough discard pancakes! It’s a very basic recipe with discard, flour, milk, egg, oil, baking powder and soda, and salt, with a dash of Mexican vanilla.
