Sorry, I don’t know the exact one now, but I think it was a smaller window unit—I want to say it was a Toshiba, and pretty much the tiniest one we could find. Our coop windows were still too small for it, so we actually had to frame out and cut a hole into the wall to fit. It works well most...

Re: the heat, we finally set up our coop with a little air conditioner. At 110+, I don’t think we could do anything else this past summer to keep them alive! It keeps the coop around 80-85 at the worst parts of the day. They go out into the run throughout the morning and evening, but generally...

    Pale comb, otherwise appears healthy?

We checked again this morning and found no mites, but we may go out and check them after dark today. I also put some double-sided tape on the underside of the roosting bars to see if anything crawls out later on and gets stuck. She’s looking better today, but generally seems paler than the others.

How do you desert chicken owners keep chickens cool in 120F summers?

Thank you! A fan seems like a must. Our temps out here easily hit 120 in the summer; I am eager for any good tips to keep our birds as comfortable as possible! I had heard that misters are not good for them, but it seems like one of the best ways to cool the area. Did you find that they avoided...

How do you desert chicken owners keep chickens cool in 120F summers?

Thank you. Someone else gave similar advice, and as I am figuring out the forums, it seems like other desert-dwellers prioritize ventilation, too.

How do you desert chicken owners keep chickens cool in 120F summers?

Thanks! I saw a few others mention ventilation as key; we are starting plans right now for a bigger and more ventilated coop.

How do you desert chicken owners keep chickens cool in 120F summers?

Hi there! We just started our flock from chicks in a brooder box in our breezeway, now about six weeks old and far too large to stay in the box much longer. We have six total (we planned to have three, but all the internet reading suggested buying more because they sometimes die…but now we have...
