Edit to add: she has always had issues with pasty butt, since being a chick. I’ve posted before about it and it was basically determined she’s got too bit of a fluff butt since she never had any signs of illness. We just trimmed her butt and went about it and she was always fine. But maybe...
I just found my fav girly dead in the coop. She layed an egg yesterday and the day before, was running around yesterday with the kids totally normal behaviour and then I went to collect eggs an hour ago and she was dead. No egg bound, no sign of trauma, no reason for me to think she was sick at...
I started back up the triple antibiotic cream since it was bloody when I found it & I’ve been spraying her with the anti peck spray. I think I’ll get her a cover too. I’m hoping it grows back. Is there a chance she won’t regrow feathers??
She was doing great, feathers started to re grow so I thought it was good to stop but I checked on her 48 hours later and she was fully packed clean & cut open again. I didn’t see these notifications or I would have read that the new feathers are tasty! :(
I did as you recommended, we also set up a camera to see who is doing the pecking and 90% sure it’s her..she’s our special chicken out of the bunch so it doesn’t surprise me…😖 also the wound got covered in shavings overnight from the ointment, is that ok or should I try and cover it?
I let my girls out today to free range and I was able to catch my smallest lady & found a huge wound on her back. Looks to be an older one but the weather has been so horrible I haven’t been able to get to them in about a week besides to fill water. I didn’t notice it earlier this week but as I...
LITERALLY! What a joke! 😂 I marked it in my calendar, we were so excited to finally get an egg & nothing! I’m glad my one baby is laying tho! We get 1 a day so it’s not enough for a big family but we’re not a huge egg eating family anyways so it’s enough for us for now. Her eggs are an...
Okayy! We got ours from the local feed store so I don’t they are that fancy! Our main girl gave us eggs at about 19-20 weeks but even google images doesn’t know her breed. It gives different answers every time I take a pic LOL
They are 29 weeks now & my one has been laying every day for weeks. The two still haven’t given us any. Am I right to assume we won’t get any until spring?
They are suppose to be Americana’s? Is that not different from an Easter egger? I believe my one is actually an olive egger but we don’t know for sure. They are 29 weeks now & still no eggs
I was under the impression that meant they were too cold! Good to know, thanks!
And we didn’t wrap the coop just the run & both still have ventilation slots! :)
the chickens (27 weeks) won’t go to roots when they are cold. They stay in the coop all day roosting if I keep the door shut but as soon as I let them out they refuse to go back until night. And now that temps are lower (Ontario fall/winter temps) they just huddle on our porch steps with...
I just got my first egg today & then I noticed one chicken is making a very weird quiet honk/squeak noise. She’s usually very distant and hates being touched but she let me get really close and just seems off. Idk if she’s sick or if this is normal for a hen who maybe just layed an egg???
Hi, I have 3 hens and they haven’t started to lay yet. I was wondering since it’s getting really cold early this year (Ontario, Canada) if they may skip this year? I heard they slow down or stop laying in the colder months but I thought we’d still get some.
