Thanks for the very informative thread. My rooster left me A giant poop emoji this morning and I was slightly concerned. Thought I should look into it before I thought it was too funny. 😆 I guess he's showing me his disapproval. I let him out later this morning than usual.

Dealing with a 1 year old rooster

He is on a time limit. I can't let him be a risk to the hens health and well being. That's my line. If I don't see good gentleman like behavior by the time it starts getting chilly up here then it'll be time to seriously consider his future or lack of. Last year one of my hens was almost naked...

Dealing with a 1 year old rooster

I wonder how he worked out for the new home ... I mean, I would lash out if I was suddenly ostracized without understanding why or being able to communicate my frustrations with the situation. Maybe I should switch up how I have them separated. Right now he's 30-50 ft away from the hens but just...

Dealing with a 1 year old rooster

I know you're all not wrong. I've found myself wondering if adopting a new rooster would be the wiser choice. I know that I'd never be able to give him to someone else but I don't know that I'm ready to give up on him yet though. Not only because I worry about what if I get one that also doesn't...

Dealing with a 1 year old rooster

He gets mad when I go in the run and I don't let him follow. Sometimes he tries to flog the back of my legs as I go in but it's a guaranteed show down when I'm coming back out. His shield goes up and he goes for the leg. See, I played soccer for quite a few years and I very easily side step him...

Dealing with a 1 year old rooster

Sounds like a solid plan, thanks! Yes I only have the one rooster now. Unfortunately the other one was way more docile but had an issue with his one leg. He came that way. I'm hoping this roo chills out with more hens. If he doesn't though I may seriously consider giving a new rooster a...

Dealing with a 1 year old rooster

They're all the same age at 15 months. I started with 8 hens and 2 roosters. Sorta nervous about introducing 3 adults to the mix. I would have added my own chicks next year but then life has a funny way of it sometimes... The last hen that died was just a couple weeks ago. My flock dynamics feel...

Dealing with a 1 year old rooster

What kind of time frame would you mean here? I'm also in a tough spot with my rooster. I also have him separated from my remaining 5 hens because of over breeding injuries. I thought it was because I needed to get more hens. There were times when the hens protested his advances and he jumps them...

Weird Rooster Question about Color White

He really is and it's usually not a big deal until you try to go near him with a cotton ball or swab. 😅

Weird Rooster Question about Color White

Does anyone else have a rooster that hates white? My rooster, Baba goes crazy over any object that's white. Bright white. Also he despises the 'Hen House' brand mascot chicken who is all white. It took a little bit to realize what was going on there. I thought he was attacking me because of...

Ended Official BYC Contest—Post Your Best (Worst) Chicken Molt Pictures - 2024

Aww poor girl! My Nugget is still dropping feathers like they're hot also. I have a heat lamp set up just for her to go and warm up under. I sit in the run with them sometimes and my Rooster is the snuggliest goof ball and will literally do anything for these hens. Up to and including letting...

This is Nugget and she is a 9 month old Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. This is my first time experiencing a hard molt and same for her too. I feel so bad for her 😅 just look at her little tail!!!

    Herb List?

I believe the healing properties of herbs is absolutely true and real. Humans have been successfully using them for centuries. What you get when you buy herbal remedies OTC / online ... ... There's not a ton of regulation on what claims they can make to sell you their products. I can tell you my...

LEAD found in coop and we've been eating the eggs !Freaking out !

I know this is a bit old but, how were the test results? I just discovered my chickens were eating lead paint from some old metal roofing abandoned with the property next door. We bought the property a year ago and have slowly been working through the overgrowth... I don't know how long they've...

Which rooster do I choose??? Any and all advice welcome!!! It's an unique situation!!!

We also had to part with our goofy roo. One evening he just decided he wasn't taking no for an answer and was seriously harassing the girls. My #1 had clearly grown tired of it and my worst fear was that I'd find the little guy pummeled to death some morning soon. Everyone is happier for it and...

Blue splotches / streaks + dots on egg shell

Wow ok thank you guys!!! I just picked this egg up, fresh from the chicken, and it looked like it got watery blue dye dripped onto it. The one who laid it is a silver laced Wyandotte with more black than my other silvers. Unfortunately my phone doesn't pick up the blue as clearly as in person.

Which rooster do I choose??? Any and all advice welcome!!! It's an unique situation!!!

I did fail to mention that bit. I don't want to breed him. He's goofy in more ways than his toes. Currently they're both just for protection. To your point about the easing tensions, I can understand. Rooster tempers can flare up easily and the hens likely sensed how easily the peace could be...
