Thank you. ❤️ I’ll keep trying. She’s never been such a meanie before… hopefully I can break her of it. Meanwhile I’m max stressed.

Still bullying after isolation and pinless peepers... please HELP

I have had a bullying problem arise suddenly this spring. My 4 chickens (two 12 mo. and two 11 mo.) lived together just fine for 9 months after the initial integration of the two young pairs. Long story short, my younger hens (one in particular) have decided to turn on the older hen. This isn't...

Non layer in nesting box and being picked on

Good news… Happy Feet laid an egg today!🥰 I gave her Calcium and Vitamin D as suggested for 3 days before leaving town (someone watched the chickens for us but they weren’t quite comfortable enough to do the pill).… and we also separated the flock before we left to curb bullying and give Happy...

Non layer in nesting box and being picked on

Didn’t realize this! Definitely not familiar enough so it’s good to know I wouldn’t choke her or something by doing that. Thank you.

Non layer in nesting box and being picked on

Ok wonderful. I crushed 2 Tums up and mixed in some D3 from a gel capsule I had… hope that’s fine. I brought it out to her and encouraged her to have it, and closed the coop door so the others wouldn’t eat it. She wasn’t going for it much while I was there but I hope she will… hard to force it.

Non layer in nesting box and being picked on

Appreciate you taking the time to read and respond!!! Pelvic bones I’ve checked and they are about 3 fingers wide (wider than one of my other layers actually when I compared), her vent seems the right shape and does pulsate. I suppose I could close her in the coop during the day with food...

Non layer in nesting box and being picked on

Hi all! Still trying to figure out what is going on in my flock, and with one hen in particular. Here is the breakdown… I have a flock of 4 (2 hatch-mate pairs that stick together) that have been living peacefully together for almost 9 months: 11 mo. Rooster - Winnie 11 mo. Hen, non laying -...

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

Thank you she’s my fluffy girl. 💕 I know… it’s hard to say anymore if it’s her behaviour in checking out the nest box that caused the bullying, or bullying that caused her to hang out in there in the first place. Something shifted in the past few days and I’m worried about her health/safety...

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

Here are some pics of her inside with me again for a bit. Not sure if they help. Clearly her abdomen is not bulging, bald, or making her walk/stand weird. I’m still not sure if her abdomen is even bloated or not but it seems more full in my hand than her smaller sisters. Meanwhile the two once...

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

Awww ☺️ Yeah I’m still not sure she has. She was still in coop when I got home. How long (days?) might a chicken normally try out nesting boxes before actually laying, if you know?

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

So cute!! A first egg? There was a lot of clucking early in the coop this morning which isn’t the norm (like the egg song they sometimes do just usually not that time of morning)… I didn’t find out which hen it was. When I went out my girl was in the nesting box… we found an egg an hour later...

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

Maybe that’s all it is… I can certainly look into getting that for her as well! I just really hope she isn’t ill. ☺️ Thanks.

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

Good to know! ☺️ My other two lay a light tan and a brown… I can easily tell apart. I’m hoping Brahma will lay a distinctive shade so I’ll know it’s hers.

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

I had her inside earlier for an hour and monitored her droppings which were typical sizes and with normal amounts of white urates. Usually they get oyster shells, it was empty, so I topped it up today! Grower feed is what I feed everyone since I have a Roo and everyone wasn’t laying - I’d read...

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

I strongly believe she hasn’t. Over the winter she developed more and more signs of maturity/readiness so I’d been expecting an egg from her when Spring came… Brahmas are late bloomers I’ve heard and she is a Dark Brahma mix. There are 3 hens (her included) and 1 roo. Grower feed for everyone...

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

I can try to get a picture tomorrow but you won’t see anything but a fluffy butt to be honest! It’s not stretched or obvious. It only seems bloated when I feel it… and I could be wrong. I was inspecting her head-to-toe when I noticed the pecking order seemed to change toward her, plus her...

11 mo Brahma EE hen (not yet laying) with bloated abdomen… help?!

My Brahma EE hen is not exhibiting any unusual behaviour that I’ve noticed lately. However, today she was getting into it with my two other hens (she is a month older and has always been top of the pecking order with my rooster from the same hatch). It was just odd to see them fight, and...

    What are we? 4-5 weeks

I appreciate the further reasoning for sure! It does help to know what to expect if they were indeed cockerels at this age. Where the lighter one had shown some pink in the comb earlier on and is generally more energetic, I was skeptical sometimes. Safe to say, if she is a hen she is a dominant...

    What are we? 4-5 weeks

9.5 week update. Input? Fairly sure Raincloud (dark one) is a pullet. Thinking it is still possible that Maple (light one) is a pullet as well. No real change in comb and wattles since they first got a pink color, and her whole comb hasn’t turned still, definitely still yellow-orange in the...
