    Only one chicken loosing feathers

I forgot to mention that, but I do not have a rooster. I remember when they were loosing their second set of baby feathers I was getting so scared that something was too wrong and got all kinds of stuff to fix them because they looked rough, but all it was was them loosing feathers/getting in...

    Only one chicken loosing feathers

I have 15 chickens. Yesterday, I noticed that all the sudden one of my chickens went from having very fluffy feathers to loosing all tail feathers (all vent feathers are still there), but her back (maybe saddle?) Feathers are gone and a little more up the way of the back. However, it looks like...

How to know when a chicken is broody "enough"

Yes, i like how simple it is right now, I'd just also like to have more without having them in my house again 🤣 One of mine just started signs, but she's also only almost a year so I doubt she's totally ready

How to know when a chicken is broody "enough"

What are some telltale signs that chickens are broody enough to put down some hatching eggs/try to make her adopt some chicks? ALSO, if she's in the favorite nesting spot, should you let her have it or try to move her to a different one?

    Raising meat chickens

That's what I was thinking too. They'd be fine during the day, but would need supplement heat source during the night. I would be moving the tractor around, but they'd generally be within the vicinity of where the full grown chickens go as I'd like to still keep a close eye on them.

    Raising meat chickens

I have a couple questions about raising meat chickens (like Cornish cross or freedom rangers). 1. I was thinking about starting them late spring again (May, our temps in texas late in the month are very high and the chicks would need minimal heat). That being said, is it safe to have a heat lamp...

    Update: Any roosters?

I asked a question earlier because i thought I may have fertilized eggs and people said it looked like it, I also wasn't getting very good pictures of my chickens. I now have an above-view pictures of them as I scattered their food so I could get a better picture. From my knowledge, I do not...

Is this fertilized? Do i have a secret rooster?

Maybe! But they're kept penned up and I'd say at least 8 acres away across a huge hayfield so I'm not sure they'd make the trip lol

Is this fertilized? Do i have a secret rooster?

I don't think it looks too much different from the other two. This one is also a cinnamon queen and I think they're sex links?

Is this fertilized? Do i have a secret rooster?

I will try to get some better ones today, but this is what I have so far, most of these are old pictures of them from when they were still loosing all their down feathers. The buff orpingtons are laying and at least 2 of the cinnamon queens are laying. I included the "hen" that I've been...

Is this fertilized? Do i have a secret rooster?

I will try to get a good picture of them all! They mainly free-range so it's hard to get a good group picture, but i will look through the pictures I have

Is this fertilized? Do i have a secret rooster?

My chickens fairly recently started laying. They all just turned 6 months old and five are laying (there are 16). Recently, when i crack eggs they look different like they could be fertilized? I will post a picture. There has been no crowing and no chickens that grow up faster/look any different...

New laying hen staying in run/coop

I haven't seen her be bullied by any other chickens. All of my buff orpingtons tend to be some of the top hens. She's just in the coop or in the run or outside, but within eyesight of it. If she sees me go close to the coop, she starts making a ruckus so I was thinking maybe she was being a...
