Throughout the day she has been drinking electrolytes and nibbling on mushy feed on her own, and she just clucked softly as I checked on her! Still no movement, but things are looking up. Thank you all for advice!
After looking into it more, I think the main problem is definitely shock. She is in a pet crate inside (it’s pretty cold outside currently) and we made her take some electrolyte water.
Last night, one of our hens slept outside and nobody realized until a fox came by around 3am. I opened my window and the fox dropped her at the sound. She was not bleeding anywhere and couldn't have fallen from far based on where we think she settled down. She is very alive, but can’t stand and...
Feel like I should clarify that I just meant I can’t have a coop with that open of a style with our weather. But yeah, there will still be ventilation in winter!
What we’ve got right now isn’t attached to the coop, and it seems like we could remove part of the wiring and add on other sections. Also, our entire property is fenced off and we intend to have the chickens roam in it most days possible! The one we have now is wired on the top and is partially...
Yeah. We have pretty high highs (90-95) and pretty low lows (0- -10) around here. If it weren’t for the countless chicken keepers near me, I would think it impossible to maintain a balance!
I like your style. Very cool coop and concept! Unfortunately, we get pretty low temps and heavy snowfall in the winter, so it’s gotta be able to button down and stay insulated.
The actual door is 12 in x 23 in. The opening of the automatic door is same width and only 8in high. And yes, I’m a minor. But my mom is very eager to provide them enough space and good living conditions, so although she doesn’t fully understand how much space they need, she is open to changing...
Gotcha. Yeah. A small, crappy prebuilt was definitely not my first choice. I was enthusiastic about building our own coop but my mom and stepdad felt that buying one was much easier. Alas, they decided on buying one much to my dismay. I don’t know if I can build one from scratch in the near...
My mom went and bought a small coop and run on Amazon for our 6 young chickens. I figured it would work for a bit until they were bigger, and then we can work on expanding it. There isn’t even room for food and water. I am developing a hatred for this coop and am desperate to make it work. The...
Hello! Since getting chickens, I have found these forums very helpful and decided to join. My mom has wanted to get chickens since I was very young, and we finally got some this May! We have six beautiful 7.5 week old birds of different breeds. One Silver Laced Wyandotte (Odette Chimneysweep)...
