Salmon Faverolle Cockerel - Late Bloomer or is Something Wrong?

He's wrapping up another round of antibiotics after the vet determined the skin lesions were necrotic dermatitis. He said it's from him being immuno compromised, but by what no one has any clue. So we're doing the best we can for him while he's still happy, eating, and drinking. But of course...

Salmon Faverolle Cockerel - Late Bloomer or is Something Wrong?

Update - we took Henry to the vet and he was prescribed antibiotics for his comb and we also were told to deworm him. Prior to that I started upping his nutrition with Nutridrench and fermented food. Once I started that he started putting on weight and growing more feathers, and really seemed to...

How to get chickens to use new dust bath area?

I was thinking about adding a layer of dirt - thank you for the confirmation that I wasn’t being silly. 🙃

How to get chickens to use new dust bath area?

We live in a very dusty and rocky area, and where our chickens like to dust bathe was pretty rough. So my sweet husband built this beautiful large box for them, filled it with sand and First Saturday Lime, and even put rounded 2x4s on the edges so they could roost around it. YET! Other than...

Salmon Faverolle Cockerel - Late Bloomer or is Something Wrong?

I’ll def keep a close eye on their feed. And I promise - never intended to breed him but def won’t let any accidents happen now. He’ll just be loved and cared for and will hopefully perk up enough to be a good leader of his ladies.

Salmon Faverolle Cockerel - Late Bloomer or is Something Wrong?

Totally understand - we have one older Faverolle and a half Faverolle. They’re both so sweet and mild and kind of do their own thing. Hence why we are adding two more to our total of 12 flock - give them more likeminded friends. 🥰 The whole flock is pretty chill, thankfully.

Salmon Faverolle Cockerel - Late Bloomer or is Something Wrong?

Thank you! To clarify - he goes out every day in integration area with his sister. I’m just not letting him sleep outside. But it’s well past time to integrate them so do you think he’d be ok at night?

    Salmon Faverolle lovers/owners?

Goofy is the best word for them! 🥰 I have three - one named Fancy that is a year old and two younger teenagers that were hatched this April. The cockerel, Henry, is slow growing but Sophie is turning out to be such a beautiful and friendly sweetheart and even climbs on our shoulders!

Salmon Faverolle Cockerel - Late Bloomer or is Something Wrong?

Do you mean curly around his chest? Does that mean something? I’ve only had one roo and he grew very fast and was always the most healthy looking guy… Are you keeping your guy on starter food until he’s done feathering or doing anything else you recommend to support him in his slow development?

Salmon Faverolle Cockerel - Late Bloomer or is Something Wrong?

Hello! We have a Salmon Faverolle cockerel and he’s a few days shy of three months old. As you can see, his neck still isn’t fully feathered (feathers on his head grew this last week) and his comb is struggling… it starts to pink up in spots then turns purple. He’s very low speed/low energy...

Failure to Thrive Back and Forth?

Thank you. Sadly, she passed a couple hours ago. Now I only have one chick left of the four, and I’m scared she’ll be alone and suffer for it. I do have two one month old salmon faverolles that I had planned to integrate with the younger ones once they were closer in size. Our last little one is...

Failure to Thrive Back and Forth?

Thank you for your fast response! This did start the day after I put the pine shavings in the brooder, but her mate and another playpen I have with two older chicks are fine. I did also switch the metal watered that day bc the older chicks were arriving and I gave them the larger plastic...

Failure to Thrive Back and Forth?

Is it normal for a chick to go back and forth being looking like Failure to Thrive and being seemingly normal??? I have a 9 day old that had a rough arrival via mail last week. She bounced back quickly, then 4 days later she was showing FTT symptoms (standing swaying, lethargic, etc). She had...

Can you raise one baby chick?

One was hatched 4/9 and one was hatched 4/16. They’re salmon faverolles, so typically pretty docile.

Can you raise one baby chick?

We received four baby chicks in the mail 4 days ago. Two were trapped under the nesting pad. One of them passed away the following morning, another (that was not trapped) passed the next day, but the other trapped baby bounced back within an hour after some electrolytes, probiotics, and egg...

Any tips/guidance on how to successfully make a long drive with a one week old chick?

The two little big ones are home and settling in. ❤️

Any tips/guidance on how to successfully make a long drive with a one week old chick?

Thank you for your guidance! We pivoted and located a one month old cockerel and a pullet in the breed we were looking for, similar driving distance but feeling better about them being less impacted by the trip. ☺️
