Can I make feed less appealing to sparrows?

I used netting to cover the run and that solved our wild bird problem!

    What killed Apple?

So sorry for your poor Apple! She was a very cute chick. If it was a predator, I would think it might come back, so setting up a camera might catch it and bring closure.

Now in time of plenty, gather and store for times of want.

At risk of asking a dumb question here, but I fear I must ask it: how do you freeze eggs? Like, is there anything special prep wise you need to do? 😅

    RIP Chickaletta

Thanks so much. She was a very pretty bird. Not as friendly as her namesake but we loved her!

    RIP Chickaletta

Ok, thanks for your help and advice. We don’t have a rooster, but I have seen our oldest hen mount the others. I thought they were starting a molt until I saw her do that. Could that play a role in the health of my other birds?

    RIP Chickaletta

My EE hen Chickaletta died today. When I found her, she had a bunch of feathers around her. I noticed she had this bald spot. She didn’t have it before; it’s noticeable enough that I feel confident I would have noticed it. Is it possible the other hens pulled out feathers after she died? Is that...

    Are these eggs still good?

I busted an illegal nest yesterday! There were four eggs in it. It’s been pretty hot, high 90s. I usually collect everyday, and I’ve blocked off access to the illegal nest so my criminal hopefully goes back to laying in the nesting boxes. But are the four eggs ok to eat or should I repurpose them?

    Frizzled Polish: guys or gals?

My Polish chicks are 2 months old! What’s your vote for these chicks? Here are my guesses. I’m not certain so I’d appreciate your feedback! Zucchini: cockerel Squash: uh… idk, maybe cockerel? Maple: pullet (also does she have cross beak??) Stick: …pullet..? Not sure. Pinecone: pullet...

Friends for Jadwiga Hatch a Long!

I thought it would be fun to post pictures of the chickies! They are almost 7 weeks old and super adorable. I love the frizzled look! Looking out for any males, but I’m sure it will take a while to be sure. For now we are enjoying their cuteness!

    Crocheters Thread

I hate it when that happens! It’s harder to check online but when buying yarn in person make sure to double check the color and dye lot number on the tag. If they match the skeins were dyed at the same time and are more likely to look exactly the same!!

    Early pip?

Very good! I put six eggs in lockdown and all six hatched, but they all hatched early. The earliest hatched almost 48 hours early, and the latest hatched about 18 hours early. All the chicks are still doing well. Super cute and curious.

What's your exp with polish frizzles?

We hatched six Polish chicks a couple weeks ago and five are frizzled! They look soooo cool. I’m obsessed with them haha

I usually like to just do one project at a time. I will make an exception if the project is hurting my wrist/arm; I’ll start a different project with different stitches to help ease the pain!
