What is everyone’s thoughts on deworming? I have had my girls for over a year now and haven’t dewormed, I haven’t noticed visible worms, two of my ladies continue to lay soft shell so I’m going down the list of what may cause it… I’m looking into trying the safeguard aquasol but would love...
I saw those and want them badly, I have so many people that give me cartons though I have a surplus especially since I only have 9 ladies and only 7 lay
Don’t have any ground squirrels here, probably because of how urban it is, just beyond that back wall is a really busy road that cuts all the way across north Phoenix, so that might deter them. The forage mix I planted back there is this, Barenbrug 1 lb. 1,000 sq. ft. Premium Chicks Forage...
I do in ground myself but have done quite a bit of research when planning my garden, you would need to plant away from the edges of the container as the soil temps about 6-12 inches from the edges get to high for the roots. The only other down side to raised bed gardening is water loss occurs...
Obviously health and age play a factor on ability to be in the heat, I work outside all day and when I come home around 2 the last I want to do is be outside but gotta check on the girls especially in this ridiculous April heat
Well haven’t caught him yet, had a friend loan me a bait box with poison that only affects the primary target so hopefully he’s eating that because he is avoiding the bucket trap, he hasn’t been in the coop just the compost pile so at least that’s good…..
Not sure what type of rat it is, I believe it or they are living under my tool shed, and their food source is the compost pile, I ordered a 5gal bucket trap to see if I can catch them that way….. if that doesn’t work I’ll try those big snap traps
Rats!!!
Well I went to let the dog out back this evening and saw something running through the garden, big ol 🐀 rat….. I have some mouse traps but doubt that’ll work anyone have ideas on good trapping techniques?
Layer feed, then I’ll give them some fresh pumpkin every couple of weeks, bsf larvae 🐛 about twice a week and they free range the yard 3 or so evenings a week eating odds and ends. I have not dewormed them
The soft shells just keep coming, I have another red sexlink that stopped laying for about 3 weeks and no she’s laying again but also soft shells everyday. I’m going to try feeding crushed egg shells….. not sure what else to do
Think we may have a little progress, she didn’t lay yesterday then over night she laid this one, still soft but it was Chalky and when I picked it up the chalky mess hardened on my finger like a eggshell…. Today will be day 4 with the calcium
Unfortunately I already tossed the soft shells so I couldn’t cut it open, I’m continuing the calcium and we will see if it helps she didn’t lay today so I’m expecting something overnight.
Well that’s the in depth info I needed to clear the excitement of adding more chickens, looks like we will be waiting until we find our new property later this year hopefully! I hope home prices adjust somehow as homes in this area with land are grossly overpriced in my honest opinion….
