Black Australorp 8 weeks cockerel or pullet?

Thanks. I wouldn’t mind keeping one Roo, but I can only do that if they are not aggressive to humans. I have a 6 year old granddaughter that loves to spend time with the chickens. I also like the idea of having one to watch over the girls. My Maran has been cranky since he was 3 days old when he...

Black Australorp 8 weeks cockerel or pullet?

Well, here we are at 12 1/2 weeks. I am thinking you experienced folks will tell me cockerel. This one is so gentle and kind to the the rest of the flock and the polar opposite of my BCM who started crowing at 9 weeks. Thanks for all your help figuring this one out. After 30 years of having...

Black Australorp 8 weeks cockerel or pullet?

That seems to be the consensus. I guess I will just need to be patient and see. My for sure BCM cockerel who starting crowing last week, I was pretty sure of his sex at 5 days, even though I am brand new when it comes to roosters. He wants nothing to do with me (most of the others will sit on...

Black Australorp 8 weeks cockerel or pullet?

Does your unknown pullet look like my unknown?? I found some video of the same breed at 8 weeks and the cockerels had huge wattles and comb and were bright red. Mine is in-between but given the number of experienced folks commenting, I am preparing for a cockerel.

Black Australorp 8 weeks cockerel or pullet?

I have attached some pictures taken yesterday at 10 weeks. I only have one Aussie so nothing to compare to. Their comb and wattle are larger than my other pullets but smaller and not really red like my Copper Maran. They don’t act like my cockerel and behave like a pulley but in reading through...

Black Australorp 8 weeks cockerel or pullet?

Thanks all. Looks like it is split 50/50 so I will wait and see what happens. I am leaning towards pullet as “it” acts more like my other pullets and not like my cockerel but that may just be wishful thinking. ;)

Black Australorp 8 weeks cockerel or pullet?

You were all so helpful sexing my EE, I thought I would reach out one more time. I have 6 unsexed heritage birds and I am quite sure I have 4 pullets and 1 cockerel. One left to go.when I look at photos of 8 week Black Australorps, their combs and wattles seem quite developed and very red. I...

8 week old EE. Pullet or Cockerel?

This chick is about to turn 8 weeks in 2 days. He was sold at a feed store as an Ameraucana BBS but thanks to this forum, I realize it is an EE. He/She has willow legs. Is this what you call a pea comb? I have 6 unsexed chicks- 2 copper Marans, one for sure is a cockerel and the other is so...

    Back in the Saddle Again

Hi, I am looking forward to having access to the wealth of information on this site. I have had chickens for around 20 years then took a 15-year break. Three years ago, I resurrected the coop and run and was gifted 5 RIR pullets. It was wonderful having chickens once again and I realized how...
