This is him at just over a month, named squeaker. His vision seems to have improved at least a little bit and can definitely see a little. Fed him wet chick feed for the first four weeks or so and is now able to find (and see) the feeder and waterer on his own, and is so far getting along...
No, it is just struggling to find the food and stuff. I am pretty sure that right now it just can’t see. It doesn’t really move from where it is at under the brooder and rarely peeps.
This chick hatched out last night with bulging eyes, and I decided to see if it would get better at all if I let em rest for a bit. This morning I noticed that not only had its eyes not gotten better, but it also seemed smaller and its egg that it hatched from was bloodier than the rest. It was...
Yeah! He healed very well! I washed his comb with a warm wet paper towel, I think triple antibiotic or vaseline, and vetericyn on it for the first few days, but I didn't really touch his eye because I didn't want to make it worse. After ~5 days his eye opened back up and has vision in both eyes...
they have ten - 15 hens for each rooster, planning on culling his dad though so we can continue his bloodline for my FFA project without as much trouble. Omelette is doing better now, eyes are open and is eating. I couldn’t get a good photo because he was mad at me for putting vetricyn on his comb.
I came outside to check on my chickens this morning and collect eggs but halfway through I notice one of my roosters’ face was covered in blood. He has been getting in fight more often recently, I know of 2 former fight in the past 2 weeks that have been nasty, but the injuries had been nothing...
Is there anything other than Ocular Marek's that it could be? And are there labs that I can send in samples from a pullet that isn't dead? If I separate her from the flock is there any chance they are safe if I clean out the coop really really really well? One last question (Sorry for all of the...
Yesterday, I noticed my (around) 35 weeks and 5 day old Black Jersey Giant had a blue-grey eye, but from what I’ve researched the pupil is normally abnormally shaped and/or dilated with Ocular Marek’s. From what I noticed, her pupil was pretty normal. She is the only one who has it. I haven’t...
I’m sorry if I’m a little late on this, but I have one speckled Cochin bantam hen named Daisy with a deformed beak of some sort. I’m not sure if it’s scissor beak or something else, but overall it’s pretty mild. I’ve got to clip her beak every month or so once it gets too long.
I’ve also got a...
Here is a warm and happy yawning Lindor. It’s starting to get pretty cold (not in the negatives yet, but we are getting there) and she is enjoying the heat lamp and my warm lap. She’s got a crop full of food and is sleeeeepy! Happy Thanksgiving!
My FFA chapter recently received around 18 hens from two different donors. However, the first donor gave us hens with really bad clipped beaks. We are grateful for the hens, but concerned for them. Is there anything we can do to help
