So I'm thinking that I only want to put food and water in the run. So the ladies would not have food or water at night until morning when let out in the run. Is this a good practice or should I also have food and water available over night for them?

Yes, awnings will be installed along with hardware cloth. Thinking I want to hinge the awnings so in the winter I can keep the winds from blowing thru the coop but yet keeps some ventilation.
Yes and going to back fill around run with dirt and put some shrubs, ornamental grasses or something along them lines. figured give my ladies some privacy and then the roots would grow thru the hardware cloth making it a good defense for most predators
