Question of the Day - Friday, February 6th, 2026

that's so sad...if I lived close and didn't have dogs that didn't like other dogs...I would, for sure take them! If the cat is telling you he/she is at the end, let it go properly...don't let it suffer. I'm sure you won't. God Bless...

    Store Bought - Vegetarian Fed???

Never really paid attention until I had my flock of 6 [minus 1 Winston RIP]...why do egg marketing people think it's a good thing to market on the egg carton "VEGETARIAN FED"????? That to me, would signal "unhealthy" as chickens that free range eat bugs, worms, insects....it's what they do...

Fake Eggs in Nesting Boxes-- Good Idea, Nah, or Meh?

We have 2 nesting boxes...they all use the same one BUT it changes every few weeks...meaning, they'll lay in the left one for a few weeks and then it changes to the right one for a few weeks. I have zero clue why but I'm happy as long as they're laying! Also, like Bawkbok, it's only 1 hen at a...

My feeling towards pet chickens - according to ChatGPT, do you agree?

I get it...it sucks...and it's the last thing I'll write about AI because it's inevitable unless congress/senate curbs this...which will not happen because they are all getting paid off. Let's get back to helping each other the best we can. We are all here to help one another with our...

My feeling towards pet chickens - according to ChatGPT, do you agree?

I don't' understand what feeling "fluffy" means as an emotion, but... I laugh and smile when I see my flock everyday, jogging to me when I approach their run. I immediately yell, "Hi Ladies!!! How are we doing?...what is on the schedule today? what do you gals want to do?" I know there are a...

Fake Eggs in Nesting Boxes-- Good Idea, Nah, or Meh?

I have never used a fake egg...the gals seem to figure it out. They have 3 nesting areas and they all seem to use the one that everyone else used. I've had 3-4 eggs in the same nest and I have 5 gals. I have not had a broody one yet but I'm sure that will change at some point.

    When a Hen Passes...

Does anyone cry? I did with Winston and assume I will when the other 5 eventually pass. They are just such fun and I love taking care of them... Oh...and when you do bury them, do you just bury them "naked" or wrap them in a cloth or put them in a box?

    When a Hen Passes...

Thank you all for responding. I feel that the dumpster is so heartless. I do like "nuthatch" that you at least took some to the woods, if you have the time/light in your area...at least it would feed another animal in the wild. I also love the idea of burying them in the garden. They will...

    When a Hen Passes...

Hi, how does everyone handle a chicken that has passed? Do you bury it? 3.5 years ago, I was a new chicken momma of 6 ladies...we lost one the 2nd year. We had a whole ceremony and cremated her in our garden fire pit with garden flowers all around...I was devastated. I'm sure some will laugh...

    Lethargic and Puffy

ok..I'm not the only one then! I'm using an 18% protein food and occasionally I take them some fresh lettuce, 10 grain hot cereal with some ground beef....They love it! I'll keep them warm...man these ladies are high maintenance! lol. Thank you for responding ;)

    Lethargic and Puffy

Ok, haven't been on the chat lately. Why do chickens decide to molt in November when they need their feathers?!? In Montana, they started molting around Nov 15th...it's now Nov 30th and it's 8 degrees outside. I have laid down a thick layer of pine shavings in their coop and "living room" and...

    Coops...

Yes, I see that would be a great option but I don't want to build anything. I'm so hoping I could pay 1/4-1/2 the cost of a Carolina Coop unless a few people here would say they are totally worth it. Maybe I'm not searching google properly.

    Coops...

Hi! Has anyone here have experience with Carolina Coops? I've been looking at them for a few years now and was curious. They are super expensive but I'm looking for a long term investment and plan on having 6 chickens routinely... I also have been looking at Amish made ones. Google search...
