Hi all, curious you opinions.
I have a nearly 9 month old buff orpington pullet that maybe has water belly? Isn't that uncommon for a bird of that age? I know it is all a mystery what is happening inside until a necropsy...
Here is the background- about 2 months ago I brought her in for a rear...
Well, once the chick in the front hatched for comparison...I think I can see the gold mix (female) from the silver mix (males). The yellow chick in the pic is a pure BO
Can someone help me decide what to do about this poop? Is a fecal float test in order? It is foamy...but not always
Background- I acquired a young cockerel from a friend a few weeks ago, he is an Olive Egger/BCM mix about 5mths old. He has been safely integrated into the flock, and has settled...
Chick did great through remainder of evening. I slipped her in with mama last night, and all is going swimmingly. This morning, she was/is bright, alert, and appears accepted by the bunch. I will still keep a close eye on mama's behavior, but all points to a successful reintroduction at the moment.
🤞does not seem to be gasping once warmed either. I'm hoping she just got lost out from under mom and got chilled...that and the newness of life. I will certainly give it the best chance I can. Does seem better able to stand on its own. Hoping a little TLC will do the trick. Thanks for the quick...
Not sure , as mom is still sitting for two delayed hatching eggs. No external trauma that I can see. Currently warming up the brooder plate. Chick has been bundled with human help and a microwave pet heat pad. Chick is much more alert since warming, and has ingested a little corn syrup mixed...
Hi all, I have a chick that is maybe 12 hours old, hatched under a broody hen. Previous 5 eggs hatched on Thursday...there were 4 eggs remaining until this one hatched this morning (I am not sure if this chick was delayed or on time, as a few days into hen sitting she stole an egg and had rubbed...
Can someone help me understand if this cross produces sex linked chicks? And of so, any idea of the color/patterns per gender to be expected? I have seen some conflicting information. I am thinking that maybe my pullet chicks would be primarily golden/buff, and cockerels would be darker and show...
New to having a cockerel around. When I have been cooking up eggs, I have been doing fertility checks. This is the first I have seen that "maybe" looks fertilized to me. Eggs are collected daily.
3 of my 7 pullets are laying (2 BCM for almost a month and 1 BO for about 2 weeks) He (BO) and all...
Yay! That's what I was thinking/hoping. I guess time will be the only true teller.
Soooo happy. My husband can finally reclaim his garage LOL the amount of dust from these chicks in the brooder was unreal. Now I get to enjoy my coffee with them in their run...we are all much happier 💗
So far everyone else still looks like a pullet to me...but my roo found his voice a couple days ago LOL he sounds like a broken squeaker toy.
Opinions on if my ladies still look like ladies? And 🤞one gent? They are 8 weeks old.
They have transitioned out to their coop, and full enclosed run...
I am sooo sure Buff 2 is a roo. That little bugger has been bossy since 3 days old!...and then that comb started to grow LOL He's a sweet bird, utterly obsessed with me, and although I purchased pullets this go 'round, I did have plans for a future roo. Looks like he is the winner! Just hoping...
Thank you! Years ago, I would have never guessed how much I enjoy these silly birds. Most days I look like the pigeon lady from Home Alone 2...except I am covered in chicks. I find them truly delightful.
Hi all, new as a member, though I have searched info here for a long while. Finally settled in our property and started raising a new flock! 1 have 8, 5 week old chicks (2 BCM, 3 SLW, 3 BO) they will be due to move into their new coop next week. These have been my first chicks raised from day...
Hi all, new-ish to chickens, first time raising day old chicks. I have 8 chicks, all hatched on 9/16, so just over 5 weeks old. 2 black copper marans, 3 silver laced wyandottes, 3 buff orpingtons. All 3 of the BO were slow to feather, 1 I am about positive is a roo. Of the SLW, one was very slow...
