Jeez, we also had a bobcat in our backyard yesterday that went after our flock. Thankfully I was right at the back door and was able to run right out, so the chickens were okay (although pretty freaked out!). That bobcat was pretty bold, though. Even with me out there running at it and...
i have a speckled sussex who had a (perhaps?) similar problem a few weeks back--one day she just seemed very weak, I had to carry her from the coop into the house- poor thing couldn't even hold her wings up. We gave her some TLC for the next few days and kept her inside-- she gradually got over...
Thank you all for the suggestions. She seems to be bouncing back in the past 24 hours or so-- she is out with her sisters as we speak enjoying a nice dust bath! Another thought I had--we have some potatoes growing in big buckets and I saw that one of my girls had gotten into one of the buckets...
Thank you for the suggestions-- I did not see any lice/mites on her when I examined her... I have never had her wormed so I should probably look into that. For now I will leave her indoors, give her a little TLC and see how she is doing in the morning. She doesn't seem all that happy about...
I'm gonna bump this..... She laid an egg about 45 min ago so is it safe to assume she is not egg bound? She seemed to be perking up a bit but now seems quite weak/lethargic again. Eyes are clear, she is eating, drinking and pooping normally.... Just wants to lie down and her wings fall out...
We have a 1 year old speckled sussex who is normally pretty spunky. She has always been a little smaller than our other chickens (including another speckled sussex of the same age) but has otherwise seemed pretty normal. This morning I found her lying in the coop, not really moving around...
I get such a kick out of chicken behavior....Cracks me right up when I walk up to one of our girls and they squat and stomp their little feet a bit! Although, the first time I saw one of our chickens squat (when I was trying to pet her), I thought she was trying to get away from me--like she...
We have 2 Wyandottes, 2 Speckled Sussex and 2 Red Sex Links.... One of the RSLs laid her first egg on Sunday--she had been squatting for a couple of weeks prior. (we have had 3 eggs this week now) None of the others have shown any interest yet, despite fully developed combs/wattles (I think...)...
We were very excited to find our first egg ever today! It was perfect! Our girls are a little over 23 weeks, one had been squatting for a couple of weeks now... She went into the coop and was in the nesting box for about an hour--and when she came out there it was!
Hopefully the pic will...
