    Enough Sun?

Hi all, I live in a wooded area of the Pacific Northwest, USA. My chicken coop & run get virtually no direct sunlight — mostly dappled or filtered light with a canopy of trees above. I am wondering if this will be an ongoing issue for egg production and chicken health? So far, pretty...

    Roo? 😩

Oh dear, don’t tell me she’s a “he”, too! Her name is hawk. She’s 16 weeks old and I’m *pretty* confident she’s a pullet at this point. If I can get a shot of her tomorrow, I will.

    Roo? 😩

Aw, heartbreaker — the cockerel is 11 weeks old (ish). There are 2 other pullets the same age and some older ladies (2-6 yrs).

    Roo? 😩

Kept thinking: wow she’s such a pretty barn mix! Now I’m thinking… no, he’s a flashy roo 🐓 (Not allowed to have roosters in my city! I’d be sad to say goodbye if he’s a .. “he”?)

    5 Weeks — cockerel or pullet?! 🐣

Hatched 4 chicks about 5 weeks ago & now I’m trying to determine their sex! Any thoughts? (I am not sure of their breeds— fertilized eggs came from a farm with lots of different breeds!) Thank you!

The four amigos! They’re inside under a heat lamp right now, but I’m wondering if I can put them in my (non-insulated) shed with the heat lamp? Would that be too cold? I live in the PNW— no snow, but colder temps at night (40’s).

If I’m honest with you, I have no idea what the breeds are! I took some eggs from my parents’ farm and just hoped they’d hatch! So far, two have hatched & they’re wreaking havoc in the incubator 🤣

Do you think it’s safe to open the incubator to take out the plastic egg divider/turner thingy?? I realized I accidentally left that in.. and I am worried my chickies will get tangled/hurt themselves with it in there!

Hi! I’m Fran & I am new to this forum. (1) I grew up with backyard chickens. I got my own flock in 2018. I only have one chicken left from my first flock (one recently died from a hawk attack). I added 6 more chickens to my flock in 2021. (2) In total, I have 7 chickens — with a few incubated...
