    Marsh Daisy

I realize this is an old thread, but thought I would put the inquiry out anyway. I have two Marsh Daisy hens purchased from Greenfire farms two years ago. I bought four at the time. Two turned out to be roosters, but one rooster had the straight comb so I gave him away. Then I lost the other...

When does the crest start to develop in Crested Cream Legbars

My cream legbars were 5 wks old before I could see a definite crest. I remember asking the very same question of the forum. :)

    Rhodebars

That you for that information. My Rhodebars are laying as well as the production breed Red Sexlink. I found the Sexlink did not last into the 3rd yr with their egg production. This is year two for my Rhodebars, we shall see if they follow the same path as sexlinks. No comparison with the Cream...

    Rhodebars

Do you think my hen looks like a good representation of the breed? Why do you think they are less popular? I like the Cream Legbars, but my Rhodebars are better layers and I like the temperament. How do you think the Welbar compares to the Rhodebar? I guess I could just enjoy the two I have...

Cree~ Wondering if you will have any hatching eggs to sell? I would love to get them started this month if you have any. Thanks.

That is the most beautiful flock of chickens you have! I think my Isbar/Silverudds must have been from GFF's later import, but they are lovely. I only have two. The hen is black and is a fabulous layer of minty green speckled eggs. What problems were there with the second import? The...

I thought he was a lemon, but when I saw yours they seemed much lighter than him, so I was confused. No hurry really with the eggs. Any time. It is still winter here. The first of March would be good going into Spring. Just looking to see what other kind you have. . . Do you like the Queen...

Thx Cree. I just wondered what you thought of his color? Would you say he is a Gold or Lemon or a mix of both? :) I still want some lemon hatching eggs from you. If you think he is a good type for a Frisian breeding program, I iwill start with him and some eggs I get from you, if it works...

Ok, here a pic's of my Rooster. Let me know what you think? He is seven months old. So far, very mild mannered around us.

    Rhodebars

I thought I would insert a pic of our Rhodebar hen. I purchased hatching eggs from a breeder in Pa. Only two hatched, both hens. I would like someone who knows the breed to critique her and tell me if she is typical for the breed. I would like to get a Rooster, but if she is not a good...

    Rhodebars

I am interested, but it is difficult to find information or likeminded people that want or know about them. We only have two hens, that lay extraordinary large eggs and lots of them. We purchased hatching eggs from a breeder in Pa (we are in Ut) that got his stock from GFF when they first...

Chicken Breed Focus - Marsh Daisy

Four months since my first reply on this thread. Anyone else own the Marsh Daisy breed? I purchased mine last July. I had to place one of the roosters because of a straight comb. My pullet started laying, finally, at six months - that would be this month. She hit the ground running by laying...

Yes! I agree with you regarding the opinion from German breeder. I meant to say - I got my roo from GFF and I wonder if he is a mix of gold or lemon and how will I know! If he is a mix, do I really want him? I want to have a breeding program pure in each color.

Oh goodness, I think I must have a lemon Frisian. My roo does not look like that. Maybe he is a result of a mix of gold and lemon? I will get a picture for you. Send a picture of your lemon roo. Your gold is gorgeous. I should call GFF and see what their opinion is of breeding these birds.

    Friesian Fowl Q&A Discussion Thread

Thank you for asking that question for me! So if I (someday get silver) they will be bred separate. Makes sense. Now, the gold and lemon - did you understand by this information, that we could breed those together? Or, shall we keep them separate, too? I am thinking that if you we interbreed...

That is correct - recessive to recessive produces that recessive trait. That is why I wondered if the silver was recessive. If a two golds or lemons can produce a silver, then undoubtedly, silver is the recessive gene. I am curious to know. It is so interesting

If I understand correctly, you are saying I can put a lemon in with a gold and the resulting chicks could be either gold or lemon? Is silver a recessive and could it also occur from breeding a gold or lemon together? If you breed silver to silver, would that be what you would get?

That is good to hear. I can't wait to get a couple pullets. Just let me know when they might be available. I have three seeparate coops in my yard. I am in the city, so I have to be very ingenious. I have two Ayam Cemani in one, my Isbars in one and the Marsh Daisy in one so they don't mix...
