1-2 week old chick with spot on foot

Great, thanks for the confirmation! For the soaking, how long would you soak it and for how many days typically? They are currently in a 2x4 ft dog crate with a solid bottom with a layer of plastic and pine shavings. I plan to move the crate out into our covered run soon, and butt another...

1-2 week old chick with spot on foot

We have 17 chicks in a brooder inside and when i was cleaning out the brooder yesterday i was noticing a lot of the chicks had bits of dried poop on their nails/feet. I have been using pee pads for flooring and there has definitely been an uptick in waste over the last few days as they are...

    Sore on chick?

We picked up these chicks yesterday so they are less then a week old. One had a spot on his butt a bit down from the vent that looks like poop, but looking at it after cleaning jt up some i think it might be a scab on a sore. Should i do anything more then monitor and treat with ointment? Thanks...

Dry looking skin - ~1 week old CX chick

Noticed something on one of the 30 CX chicks and im not sure if its a normal part of the feathering process or some kind of skin issue. Under one of the wings, the feathers/fluff/skin seems a bit crusty. It might be just some food or something is stuck on (I'm going to try some warm water to...

5 day old CX chick just laying down

It's and a-frame tractor (8x10 i believe) with a heavy duty tarp that covers probably 80% of the frame, probably a 12-18" or so gap along th bottom of each edge and bars along the top of the a for roosts. I might end up needing to cover the gap a bit, depending on how many of the chickens...

5 day old CX chick just laying down

Thanks, so far so good. Im hoping to have space, not sure if the temps will cooperate. We are in the florida panhandle so the temps hit a low in the low fifties/high forties on average, with some nights as low as 30. I do have a tractor im planning to put them in and move 2 times a day, might...

Unfortunately the chick passed. I had it in a separate container with bedding and food/water and i checked it a bit later and it was gone. At least the other chicks are all still looking healthy and now i have tue vitamins on hand in case of a similar circumstance. Thanks again!

All good points and thank you for all of the insight! Like i mentioned, this is all brand new to me so I'm trying to figure out how to do it the best way. Good point about that being half their life span, i was planning to start the restriction at the beginning of week two,.but might as well...

5 day old CX chick just laying down

The brooder is set up in a corner of our laundry room in our house. Ill go ahead and open up the area. You think by 5 days they are old enough to make it back to the heat lamp without direction? WRT to the feeding, the rotation should start that early? I'm not trying to be argumentative or...

5 day old CX chick just laying down

I'll do what i can to try and get that kind of picture, it's hard to capture what would be specifically hers. For the nutri-drench, is that something you'd be feeding directly from dropper somehow?

5 day old CX chick just laying down

So far i have not been pulling their food, i was under the impression with my reading beforehand that that only needed to start once they we past the first 2-3 weeks. The brooder i have is about 7x5, currently closed off to be a bit smaller to keep them near the heat lamp. The boxes are lined...

We have been using kalmbach 18% non-gmo start right chick feed and cold tap water. So far everything has...
