When I got home she was standing upright, head and feet cold, eyes closed, looking absolutely miserable. The maggots I could see were mostly under her skin and I knew it was the end. Our neighbor who is a vet tech was able to come and put her down for us. I'm thankful for kind people like her...
I should clarify that the first time I noticed flystrike, I got them all. I was very vigilant in picking them off and there were NO signs after her first bout....this one I was stuck as we had no one who could help when we were away.
HI all,
I have been helping an older ailing chicken with flystrike for the past couple weeks. We noticed small maggots one day, and by daily washing kept her clean and happy. We kept her inside with us every night and she was ok. We recently went away camping and she only had one washing in 3...
She is a 3-year-old Isa Brown, and I know she hasn't been feeling herself for a while (weeks). After the egg ordeal today she ate a little and then she's been standing upright since then. It's hard because I have kids and I'm running around all day. We also don't have a vet in town
Yes...although if this was an issue for her, maybe the "egg" was the culprit? I tried stringing out fluid twice and I just get a vacuum seal in the syringe, nothing will come out 😑
Thank you! I have her a calcium, messaged her belly a bit, soaked her again and she just laid it! It was about 2/3 the size of a small egg. Poor girl. I don't know if that's what's making her belly distended and whatnot, but at least she got it out.
I have a 3 yr old hen with distended belly and lack of appetite with a white (abnormal lash egg type thing) stuck in her vent! Please help! We've done 3 epson salt baths, used olive oil to lube up the area and tried helping but it's not coming out. I don't know what else to do I want to grab it...
