    Plush Quail where to buy

Tractor supply had a brown "chick" plush that I picked up and was as close to a quail as I could get. Was soft, fuzzy and fluffy. I'd show you a pick if my pug hadn't licked it to death and I had to trash it. Was about $6.

    Face protection when cleaning

Do any of you wear protection when cleaning? I wear regular glasses but just hold breathe if I sift thru the sand/sawdust and coop is outside so plenty of ventilation. I could wear a regular paper/medical face mask but seeing if there's other options in gear or just cleaning procedure.

Is it easier to join two coveys that already live side by side?

Or in my case - one on top of the other. I have two mixed coveys of 4hens x 1roo and want to join them to dedicate one floor to tuxedos. I've heard of the put up a divider /see but can't touch method, anyone done this with coveys that already live so close together? Also, joining the...

Air bubble on newborn chicks neck, accidentally popped it

Think dry and warm as a priority. Set in warm area with dry floor to absorb poop. That floor can be like wood shavings or even paper towels or a puppy pad. Water and food in small dishes with something in the water like rocks or marbles to prevent it from drowning. Check that the water doesn't...

    Quail pets flooring

I use it in trays and I actually use the kitchen sprayer to pre-spray the pellets in a bucket, mix and let them dry out over night so they expand some or dissolve and then put the sawdust/broken up pellets in.

    Pre-fab house made of cedar

I'm looking for something that can be used: as an outside brooder temporarily, since garage is too hot a place to separate a broody mom and her chicks a small run to give the covey some fun pecking the yard every now and then I like the below because it fits all these (bottom tray and wheels...

    Broody Hen

Looking into possible outside separate living area - small prefab hutch/coop or something for temporary housing. I do have a brooder in garage I can move her and the chicks into, though. This is how it starts, isn't it? I swore my quail hotel was gonna be enough.

    Broody Hen

I noticed one of my hens stays in the cubby side of the quail hotel, where all the ladies lay the eggs and I usually scare her off to collect eggs. I've never had poultry before so I didn't put 2+2 together until yesterday. I checked and sure enough, she'd gathered 3 of the eggs and was sitting...

my thieving otter eggs are in the incubator- need photos of setups please

I used a heating plate on mine with the back set to lowest possible and front angled slightly up. I had the food in a small tray and the water in a small tray with marbles and I stuffed both half to 3/4 the way under plate so they wouldn't have to come out if they didn't want to. Sorry you've...

    Convert to deep litter?

When this house was made, they originally made it too tall, so I asked them to add a divider and that way I could have 2 levels for quails. I solved the flooring problem by creating a sort of lifted wire floor that I drop wood pellet sawdust into. It works ok, I often just wipe and trash the...

    New outside pen

This sounds awesome! Since you're quite handy with wood might consider placements of the water pipes and bucket. Will your open side just drop to floor or trays? Interested to see final product!

Ah! I have a tray I put in with different textures/rocks/treats for them to peck around in. I'll do that, thanks much!

    Bedding: Pellet vs Sand

In southern TX so very hot climate and the right side (cubby side) is fully enclosed with a door to open side. There's no drainage, I scoop or sift out to clean. I see them peck thru the sand and heard they sometimes use it for grit, so was concerned that if i switch it out for wood powder...

    Bedding: Pellet vs Sand

I had pine shavings on the cubby side of my quail hotel but decided to put in sand since they love it so much. It's going great but I also noticed they do well on the wood pellet (powder) and bathe in it as well. I'm thinking it's more absorbent than the sand? Would there be drawbacks to...

Help color id and which roo to keep

@Susan Skylark yeah, and it's a damn shame cause it looks like I'm going to have to cull him. As soon as I try to add him back he jumps on the females aggressively, sends them all into a fit and the other roo who was quiet now steps up. I wish I had room for him.

Help color id and which roo to keep

Something interesting has happened. So, I had two white ones like the picture above and they both were with the orange one. They're coloring suggested roo but no crowing, no foam.. as many suggested, I think maturing slower. So, I have had the orange one in a bachelor pad in garage for a...

Help color id and which roo to keep

Ah wow, ok this would explain things. I have two roos, exact same color as the white one in pic and I've had the hardest time telling if roo or not because of the vent check. The coloring says roo, though. They are also quiet and nicer, so as you said, I'm guessing the hormones haven't kicked...
