My husband has decided in the next few years we are going to make a move towards family and find ourselves in Ogden. So I'll probably lurk around here and make some early chicken friends before the move. Not sure its best to take my ladies with me but I will not stop having a flock all together.
Its my chickens first 100 degree day today. I'm going to set them up a little water pool with bricks to stay cool. Any other hot weather tips to try? I'm a nervous momma and know SATX is going to be hot this year. They do have lots of shade but usually prefer to stay out of it.

Next year I'll probably tackle raising breeds side by side for meat comparison. I worry about how CX temperament is but then again its just a few weeks.
I'm curious. If a person was to cull a heritage dual purpose breed and a cornish-cross at either broiler stage or fryer stage is there a quality difference? I know theres a size difference but is the flavor or texture any different?
