    Pickle time

I was able to successfully hatch 25 chicks. Less than 24hr later I was able to vaccinate them all against mareks disease. It was a bit dauting to say the least. With a limited 1 hour viability for the vaccine, I wasn't sure I had enough time. I set my stop watch and took the vaccine from the...

    Pickle time

It looks like I'm in a bit of a pickle. Hatch day is friday. My kids graduation is saturday about 3 hours away, I'll be gone from 8am saturday until about 8pm. This is my first time hatching chicks, so I'm not entirely sure what to expect. Sure I've watched so many youtubes on it, but until...

What are folks doing for marek's?

The ones i've seen are liquid concentrate, not wafer, in a vacuum seal bottle. I was under the impression that once the vacuum seal was toast that was it. I have not seen it in wafer form.

What are folks doing for marek's?

All my hatchery birds are vaccinated, as are my neighbors with birds. It's a pretty birdy area. Thanks for the link, i'll check it out.

What are folks doing for marek's?

I can get the vaccine, but from what i'm reading, once rehydrated it's only viable for an hour. And it's 1000 doses. I have 30 egg incubator which I plan on loading up with as many as i can. The vaccine is around $80, so every hatching I get, if it's 30 chicks that's $2.66 per dose.

I see an interesting thing their description. -Rehydrate only 1 vial (1,000 doses) with 200 mL of diluent. then -Use all the vaccine from 1 vial within 1 hour after rehydrating. That's 1 dose every 3.6 seconds. That's why i see people vaccinating and tossing them aside.

I read it all. I'm hatching chickens this year for the first time. I see an insane amount of people hatching chicks. I know that there's no way most of these people are going to vaccinate against mareks. I think a lot of people are going to have a bad time.

Newb, no hens, can't have them for now. Working the state legislator and local city to allow limited laying hens.

Welcome. What is your lot size? If you have 2+ acres, i'd do it anyway. Send the chicken police if they want. if you're in a subdivision with 1/8 acre lots and a hoa, good luck, you chose wher eyou live.

    Building a coop from scratch

Fast forward to today. TSC chicks are $6.99 and $9.99 for premium. Still no chicks at TSC. As such, i've decided to breed what I have. I'm building a new coop at the other end of the run, and I'm going to isolate my rooster, 6 egger hens, and 4 RiR's and split the run in half. Once isolated...

    Building a coop from scratch

I got a shed from amazon for $100. It was awful to put together. I store my hay there though. And I picked up a bunch of pallets. The ground around the coop gets muddy, so I wanted some decking. It's nice when a project is free instead of costing an arm and a leg.

    Building a coop from scratch

Got a flat on my chicken hauler. This is the first year I won't be using it, with my hopes to hatch myself and the new coop will double as a brooder.
