Yea, I just don't understand how this guy builds so many and delivers all over the place, how/why the hardware cloth wasn't put on the outside, why the auto door wasn't put in place of the large coop door, why there are no purlins, why, why, why. Grrrr.
So, I've got to start working on things...
I know there are already a bunch of threads on new coops…I guess I’m just trying to post what my coop/run is at this time. 😊
I didn’t have any help back in mid March to actually build one, so I found a person/company on Marketplace to build one for me.
I really didn’t know what questions to...
Just put the food/water in the coop with them, they had gone in there while I got the drill/screws & rod to hang the food/water on. They seemed to kinda like it better in there, especially with this wind.
Maybe let them out on Friday or Saturday as it’s going to be nice weather for them...
So would it be better if I just locked them back up into the coop till Sunday or Monday? I think you’re right that it would teach them that that area is home.
I’m headed out to check on them. They do have access to the coop but I closed the door to it this morning. I guess I should be leaving that open for them.
I’m trying to learn myself and also tech them to go into the coop in the evenings - thought it might be better to make them stay in the...
OK, temps today here in Ashe Co NC is around 48F but winds are getting up to 20+mph.
This is only my 7wk old chicks 2nd day living outside in their new coop/run. I guess I’m concerned that the “feels like” temps are going to be too cold for them?
Should I just leave them out in the run with...
I'm gonna say, this is the first time I've had chicks and they are currently living in my dining room. They will be 5wk old on Thursday; living in a 6'x2.5' aluminum trough from TSC.
This past weekend, I cleaned my dining room/kitchen and worked on my living room. The dust!!!! I really...
OK.
So I basically just need to clean everything this weekend and again next week, etc.
That’s fine. It’s at least far enough away from cooking.
I’m thinking if I get chicks again, they are going to live in my workshop vs my house. 😊
OK, I have been using the pine shavings from TSC for the bedding for my chicks but OMG...the dust!! Is it just from the pine shavings?
I'm going to clean the brooder out tomorrow and put all new fresh shavings in unless y'all can recommend something that will be a little less dusty.
I was...
Thanks everyone!
I do love the sound of them and hearing them run around playing and pecking/scratching around in the enclosure.
I will be glad when they are out of my house - the dust is awful and I didn't know the pine shaving stuff would create so much. Next time, I will investigate some...
Hi!
Over near the Laurel Springs area, but still in Ashe County.
2 grown children too. Son (youngest) lives down near New Bern & has a 15mo old (my 3rd grand), daughter is in West Jefferson (16yr & 14yr grands).
Hi all!
New chick owner - walked into TSC about 3.5 weeks ago for some dog bones & toys and came out with 6 chicks and a starter kit. :hmm
I grew up on a farm and we had 2 very large hen houses where we gathered the eggs and sold them. Been around chickens, but it's been ages ago. Lots of...
