There is no area here of a decent size that won't have trees, but I get it. Totally do. The netting you mention is from Pinnon Hatch Farms, and that's exactly the netting I have lol.
I saw a pic once of someone's run on this site, and I can't find it now, but they had theirs around trees...
I totally get what you're saying. I'm a little leery of nailing anything into the tree, but I have no idea how else to do it. I'll try to limit the # of nails. I think that's the best I can do.
Darn trees.
I have been searching this site for a bit, and I haven't found what I'm hoping to learn yet, so here goes.
I am planning to move my largest flock to an area of the property that gets better drainage. It will be a 40' x 80' area. I plan to cover the whole area with heavy duty aviary netting...
I haven't had her long. She's a rescue. I have no idea at all what her age is. The swelling just started a few weeks ago and she's not limping at all. And it's both ankles. The pic I posted doesn't show it well. But maybe from jumping from a high roost?
My thoughts, too. I just had a guinea with the most hideous scoping I've ever seen. He recovered, but the scratching was an issue.
Maybe raise the food dish, too?
I have a hen, a barred rock, who just turned 9 in August. She was top hen for years, but I don't think she is anymore.
She just went through a very hard molt. She also had bumblefoot that I couldn't treat, and I took her to a vet who gave her a clean bill of health after treatment. That was a...
Sorry for the delay! It looks more like synoviae to me, too,but zero nasal involvement - no swelling, sneezing, etc. I'll make an appointment with the vet. I would have sooner, but I just had another bird emergency that cost me a LOT of $.
In the meantime, she's isolated. And loud. This is the...
That's what I thought. No sinus involvement at all, and it's been like this for weeks now. She had a limp when I first had her in quarantine, but that was years ago.
Looks like it's time for a vet visit....
Hi. I have a rescued Speckled Sussex hen named Cracker Jack whose ankles are quite swollen. I took her in two years ago. I don't know her age, but she no like anger lays very often. The gal I got her from didn't know anything about chickens. She was a house chicken who was fed scraps and bird...
Thanks! I was worried about the wound drying out. This guinea and I will gladly taper it to once a day. I don't care if it doesn't grow back. I was more worried about the hole left behind closing up successfully. I'll keep watching it closely. It's pretty horrific. I'd post pics, but there's no...
This is super interesting! For my part, I have roosts and "shelves" for my birds. They don't have a run, really, but they have a large fenced and coveted yard with trees and logs and remnants of an old fence that they jump and climb all over. I have one Created Cream Legbar that lays wonky eggs...
Hi. I'm pretty new to guineas. I have three that were raised by a hen. They act like chickens, roost with them, go to the coop at night.
One escaped the chicken area a couple of weeks ago. One of my turkeys cornered it and scalped it. I intervened as soon as I saw what was happening. I...
I have to say that how I deal with a broody depends a lot on her individual personality. I have a hen who I can give babies to raise any time -even if she's not broody. I have hens I can move any time of day without any issue. I have some I let staybroody and others who need to be "broken"...
Paint alone has not been great for me. I'll figure something out. I may try some thick contact type paper stuff to see how it goes. I have a bunch leftover from another project. Or maybe I'll try the PVC panels. Or vinyl tile. Or all of the above to see what works best for projectile poop. Haha!
See, now, mine hasn't. That's what I've been trying to combat. I've got 3 coats of waterproofing membrane on my big coop, and the poop is just not coming off the walls. And I've been good about scraping if off when I see it. Oh well. It was definitely worth the ask. I got good feedback. Thanks!
Makes sense. My current coops don't have it, and even with the Henry's roof patch I used, scrubbing duck poop off the walls has been... fun. Lol. I was hoping to avoid that in the future if possible.
