Hi all,
We just finished our run for our new spring chickens (4' x 42'). Although I've read a number of posts regarding run flooring options, I still am unsure of what to use.
I have ruled out sand for now, but want to put more down than just the current dirt, mainly to make it more interesting...
Another round of Silkie sex guessing, please!
We also had a gorgeous white one, but he crowed at about 2.5 months and luckily had a friend take him! We are of course hoping the rest are girls...
#1- my guess is girl although her comb is a bit wider than the others, but V shaped at top
#2- very...
Hi All,
I currently have 8 week old Silkies that have been getting Payback Medicated Chick Feed (20% protein) since I got them. It does say on the bag that I can feed this from hatch all the way up to 18 weeks... but I've read other people's comments that say to only feed the medicated stuff...
Okay thanks for responding,
I'm totally bummed because I planned the flock (the best I could) around getting the Speckled Sussex (someone once told me they were the best!)... otherwise I could have gotten all the ones I currently have in the same week, which would have omitted the hassle of...
hi! *new chicken owner, in the city*
I had planned our 1st flock being mixed, choosing family friendly breeds since we have a 4.5 year old kiddo and wanted chickens that would be okay with pets or cuddles, as well as ones that'd likely get along with each other... so out of what was going to be...

Gotcha! These are our very first chickens, I have been waiting for like 6 years and now we finally have some! :)
My husband is still building the coop, so no pics yet! but it will have an attached run of 4'x32' (they will have an L shape area around a garage), plus an additional 5 ft for a...
oh nope, i actually didn't realize that!
My plan was that they'd get to know each other for a few weeks and then the older chicks would move outside and during the day I'd put the baby chicks in the dog kennel brooder but have it inside the run, and then they'd sleep separately at night...
Yup, fair enough!! I did put them in very temporarily to have a meet & greet with the bigger girls and they were immediately trampled on and one of the Silkies grabbed one of the baby's legs... very mean! :(
So I have separated their spaces in the same dog kennel brooder, so they can get used...
hi all! *new chicken owner*
We currently have 4 almost 5-week old Silkies inside in our bigger brooder space (dog kennel), but we just got 2 more baby chicks (barred rock & speckled sussex) this past Friday that I have in a small brooder at the moment. I was going to give them a week to get...
She is only 4 weeks old so not yet fully feathered and still indoors! Will separate her in our dog kennel for sure :)
