Sorry I forgot to come back to this! Update: My girls are laying! All of the Easter Eggers are hens, the barred rock is a hen, Ethel May Orpington is confirmed a hen, and Betty Orpington is about 90% likely a rooster - weak crowing sounds are happening (different than the hen raptor sounds)...
On top of the crowing, he is significantly larger than the other Orpington with legs twice as thick. I won’t shove aside the idea that he’s a hen though. I hear in some all female flocks a hen will take on the rooster’s role and even exhibit minor male traits. It’s always possible.
I found this light brown egg in the coop today and just want to confirm my suspicions. I have what I was considering a “mystery gender” lavender Orpington (pictures 2 & 3). The other Orpington I have is now clearly male and the differences between the two have me leaning towards hen for the one...
#5 is Ethel May and #6 is Betty Sue. They are very contrasting in looks in person, so that’s why I suspect Ethel less but the comb is a bit concerning.
Ive gone back and fourth with Jelly (Barred rock) but im feeling more pullet as time passes. Although the comb is a bit prominent, it has not...
Betty Sue is indeed my prime suspect. Practically no tail feathers compared to Ethel May, and comb and waddle are coming in noticeably more pink as well. We can luckily own roosters where we live so we won’t hate it if one turns out to be a handsome gentleman.
First time raising chickens. After some research, we went with a local reputable farm for our chicks. All were sexed as pullets, but I suspect we may have a cockerel or two in the mix. We have 4 Easter Eggers, 2 Lavender Orpingtons, and 1 Barred Plymouth. I know it may be too early to know...
Hi!
We always make giant paper chains for events like birthdays and holidays, and then we also like to look up fun projects that only require construction paper and glue/tape/staples. Since there’s a lot of us, there’s always an “event” happening, so we’re often crafting. We just made wall...
