I purchased them on Amazon from Surmen Legacy, but they were very delayed and I was afraid they would all be dead by the time I got them. I was very squeamish about the whole worm thing, so when they arrived I just dumped them all in the prepared tank and hoped for the best, so I can’t really...
I just pick them out by hand, but I would love to have an easier, less time consuming way to separate the adults from the babies. My mealworm farm is booming! I have too many for my five chickens. I have since changed my process a little bit from this one also.
First time chicken keeper. I just used a plastic Easter egg and they all laid in the nesting box. I just keep it in there. They seem to expect it. One hen likes to push it through the rollaway divider to the back, so I just put it back in place each time I collect the eggs. I am hoping my two...
IDK, it still doesn’t really make sense. The jars are not warm to the touch or anything and the gases should be escaping fine. But that must be it. 🤷♀️
I only ferment for 3 days. It must be the jars. We bought them for a wedding and painted chalkboard paint on them; baking them for a period of time to set the paint. It must have weakened the jars. That is the only thing I can think of. Thank you to all who chimed in to try and solve the mystery!
They are all Ball jars except for the one on the left. Broken jar pic is a Ball and it double cracked. I am starting to worry that there is something weird with the last bag of crumbles I bought. I usually purchase Scratch and Peck and our Grange was all out so I had to purchase a different...
For some reason my jars keep cracking. I cannot figure out why. I am not screwing a lid on them, and it always seems to be the ready to use jar. I do set a lid on the top, but it's not even a lid that really fits the jar, so it won't screw on anyway. I have gone through at least 7 jars now, all...
In Oregon, so not a lot of humidity. I have 1 small fan in the back bottom blowing air into the coop and the other small fan at the front top sucking it out. Or at least that is what we were trying. I also had a box fan blowing into the coop from the back bottom, since it is shady at the back...
We built a hoop coop and I placed a thermometer inside to keep track of the temp. The coop is covered with a large white tarp. The temperature has been 10+ degrees hotter inside the coop than outside despite having a solar fan setup. I panicked and we removed the tarp and tried putting ground...
My mealworms keep turning black even though I think I have enough carrots and/or celery in the tank. Confused as to how much produce I need to have in there as I spread pieces all around the tank.
Hello! I have a feeling my Buff Orpington might be a rooster, which city regulations don’t allow. I only have the one, so I don’t have another hen to compare it with. I have searched online, but am just not for sure and don’t want to mistakenly rehome a hen. It is 12 weeks old. Thoughts??
Well, they finally arrived and miraculously some are still alive! I just threw the whole lot into their bin with some apple cores and carrots and dampened some paper towel pieces to cover more area. Should I pick out the nonmoving ones or not worry about it?
Hello mealworm farmers!
I ordered 2000 mealworms to start my adventure and the shipment was shipped out on May 10. I received notice that the shipment was delayed and would not arrive until today, May 23rd. I am guessing they will all be dead. I already contacted the seller about it and I will...
I hung a jingle bell, and they also really like a small hand mirror from the Dollar Store. After moving them into the coop I hung the mirror up and stuck their baby perch in front of it and they were all trying to look at themselves, lol.
