    Not laying in nest box

Yes! Or maybe prairie bluebell. Her eggs are a sky blue right now. Wondering if they will change.

    Not laying in nest box

Thanks! Definitely going to be on the lookout and and put her in the right nests. I got her from Hoover’s Hatchery, I got their colorful egg layer bunch. People on here on previous posts told me she was a cinnamon queen. I figure she is some sort of Easter egger. I’m always curious to know...

    Roosting bar “tower”

Thank you! I forgot to mention I do have plastic Easter eggs in them I just don’t see any signs of her going inside of them at all. They are at 36inches high right now. We made them this high to deter them from sleeping in them. I do see that she is super curious about going inside the coop...

    Not laying in nest box

Yes, we are installing a solar powered fan tonight :) The nesting boxes are 12x12x12 and about 3 feet high with a 6 inch lip (followed Joel Salatin’s recommendations)

    Not laying in nest box

Also yes, she is hoping onto the roosts fine and seems like she hops down and lands on top of the nest boxes. So it seems like the space is ok?? The chicks still haven’t learned to roost I think they’r still sleeping on the floor.

    Not laying in nest box

Thanks, yes I forgot to mention we did add fake eggs to the boxes. The coop is all new to her and the chicks it’s their 2nd day sleeping there. I don’t see any signs of her trying to nest in the boxes yet. Not sure if they are too high or just not enough room to jump into them? But she is super...

    Not laying in nest box

My pullet/hen finally started laying but not in the nest boxes. I have another post under coop modifications as I know my coop is tight for space and not ideal. Should I bring the nest box out to the yard/run or leave it in the coop and just lower it to the floor? The reason why we made it tall...

    12 week pullet laying?

Update: my hen has started laying and they are blue! Don’t think she’s a cinnamon queen afterall!

    Roosting bar “tower”

Thank you I’ll show this to my husband and see what we can do. So far we took out the roosting tower and he put in a ladder as shown in the pic. But it still looks a bit crowded. The hen is roosting on it though. She just started laying yesterday and she hasn’t been laying in the nest boxes...

Integration day 2 (15 week pullet and 6 week chicks)

Thank you!! They’r grazing boxes there are a lot of videos on YouTube on how you can build them. We just threw some grass seed and it’s been giving! The idea is that the chickens will only eat the top and not the roots. The hardware cloth is so that they don’t scratch the roots out otherwise you...

Integration day 2 (15 week pullet and 6 week chicks)

Should I do it already even though she’s still chasing and pecking somewhat?

Integration day 2 (15 week pullet and 6 week chicks)

So far we are only keeping them together in the chicken yard during the day. Seems like it’s going a little better than day 1 when she was relentlessly chasing them. I still catch her chasing and pulling their feathers a bit if they are in an area I think she feels territorial over.. but they...

Rhode Island Red hen or roo?

That’s interesting! Yeah im in the city and its even harder to rehome them here. It’s legal to have 1 but most people don’t even own chickens. If they do want roosters around here there’s a risk they may be for cockfights or kept in cages. It’s real hard, I almost want to learn how to process...

Rhode Island Red hen or roo?

Yeah the rest we got are blue and black sexlink. My favorite so far are the black sex-link. They are not too scared of us and haven’t pecked us. The blue sexlinks are too flighty and scared of us and the Rhode Island reds are too fiesty. The Rhode Island Red female chick is the smallest of all...

Rhode Island Red hen or roo?

Idk either but we originally got 10 olive eggers also straight run 8 were cockerels and non were aggressive. 2 of them were cream leg bars and they were pretty docile up until we got rid of them at 16 weeks.

Blue sexlink 6 weeks, no comb

🫨 Just learned something new! lol thanks 😊

Rhode Island Red hen or roo?

Thanks we were afraid of that 😓 and the local feed store told us they were sexed. This one has always been the most fearless with us too and throws pecks when we try to pick it up.. I hear Rhode Island Red roosters can be real aggressive. We just had to get rid of 8 other cockerels it’s such a...

Blue sexlink 6 weeks, no comb

one of my blue sexlink chicks has almost no visible comb at 6 weeks , is this normal? I have 5 other chicks and they all have small combs by now. Posting another blue sexlink for reference. I have not seen them peck at her but she is the most flighty and gets stressed if we pick her up.

Rhode Island Red hen or roo?

they are both about 6 weeks old but one is a lot bigger and already has bigger comb and waddles :/ The small one is the smallest of all 6 chicks though. The other chicks are black and blue sexlinks.
