"I have linoleum glued over OSB and caulked all around so that bacteria and pests will have no place to hide from my annual cleaning."
You actually have linoleum on the floor? We considered that but felt it was too slippery for the birds. No? Sure would make clean up easier...
Sorry for your loss. Highly likely it was a snake or snakes. Racoons don't go underground, but they would chew on the heads if they could reach the birds. Weasels? Probably not. Moles and gophers are not known to attack other animals. We've found large holes in the ground in our chicken...
We have a Border Collie, PJ, now 5 months old and she was raised with the chickens. She'll soon learn to "herd" the chickens into the coop at night. We also have a 1 year-old Yellow Lab, Tico, a 1 year-old Rhodisian Ridgeback, Holly, and a 10 year-old Cairn Terrier, Ariel. PJ already "herds"...
My wife picked up 9 chickens a few months ago. Lately she says she hears one cackling like a rooster in the mornings. The birds are still young, how can we tell if it's not already obvious?
Thanks!
