I had success with a very young chick twice. This one is about 2 months and bigger, harder to treat. I think the shoe bothered him more than the toe. He's not in pain gets around fine. It's my La Fleche cockerel.. he's got a great personality even with his weird foot. LOL
The little shoe fell off. It's pretty set now so I think he's just going to have a bent toe. He's not a show bird, and walks fine with no limp. I am going to leave it as is.
I have a six week old chick that dislocated his middle toe. I made a splint out of a straw and put some tape on. It made a little shoe. Is there anything else I can do?
He actually walks fine and it was flexible enough to sit with the straw so I’m hoping in a week or so maybe all straightened...
Here is a little picture . They are scrappy right now in the Fugly stage. They are pretty flighty. I have handled them when they were a baby, but they are still a little bit skittish. I live in North Carolina, so the weather is warm out here. It was 90° outside today. Perfectly warm enough...
She may have tolbunts. I think she mentioned that. I like the birds.. they are really colorful.. and their temperment is very nice too. They are still young..I will see what they look like at maturity too. They are about 13 weeks right now.
Thanks for the feedback. Agreed.. but at least I like the chickens. They are friendly, and colorful. I will keep them with my layers... not breeding birds. Jagger cracks me up.. He's a good diligent fellow.. I call them the Houligan Band of Chickens. :P
The rootser on my profile pick is Jagger. Cooper has more black less white at least yet, he looks like Jagger a little but has more black feathers too on his back. Mottled though like the rest.
Ebay. The girl said they were speckled sussex, but then these hatched. I got one speckled sussex. She also raises polish and seramas, so maybe those three? She swears they didn't mix, but these are def not speckled sussex. The egg color was a light brown just like a speckled sussex, I...
Mottled, with a crest. They were sent as "surprises" in a hatching egg box. All look like this. Mottled, speckled, black crest, with black/brown, bay, red colors.. They look a little like icelandic chickens.. but they're def not.
So happy for you.. great news. One of my Tolbunt chicks is so much smaller than the rest, not growing at same rate.. Acting normal .. I am wondering if it is a bantam.
