Late blooming rooster or just a weird comb?

That’s so interesting, thank you! I never would have guessed how many different kinds of chicken combs even exist.

Late blooming rooster or just a weird comb?

Ah good - that’s what I was sort of hoping! I was just thrown by how large her comb has gotten especially compared to the other EE you see there. It also seems to have three rows vs. the other one’s one row which a lot of people seem to connect with roosters.

Late blooming rooster or just a weird comb?

I have one EE chicken who has yet to lay, and I’ve thought she was a late developing pullet, especially since her comb looked just like my other laying EE except that it remained pale. I went away for a week and now her comb has gotten much larger than the other EE, such that it looks like what...

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

Sorry for the late reply on this - I missed the notification. The run came with the coop, but they also sell it separately (Producers Pride from Tractor Supply). I then wrapped it in hardware cloth with an underground apron!

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

No I wish I were that handy! It’s the producers pride defender from TSC. I waterproofed and painted it, covered the run with hardware cloth with a buried apron and added a ventilation fan, automatic door, etc. They also sell just the run section if you have something to attach it to.

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

Thank you! It’s definitely two barred rocks laying at this point, so I’m glad to have someone experienced with them weigh in!

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

Ok that’s definitely a bigger ring than I’m seeing on mine. This is what they’ve looked like lately. I’m thinking that must just be what they look like.

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

Thank you! I’ve been anxiously watching these chicks grow and at any given point I’ve thought at least one might be a rooster but once they were fully feathered they all seemed like pullets to me. I still only have 2 laying at this point, but guess I’ll figure it out at some point I guess...

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

Is it the shape of the feathers there that say roo? Sorry, trying to learn this but when I took a close look today and compared to the other smaller BO, I couldn’t see a difference between their feather shape. I took some more pictures of the one in question if that’s helpful!

That’s so interesting! Life finds a way I guess!

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

They look pointed in pictures but it’s an illusion - they’re actually round with black lines/arrows at the end, and then the gold blends together. I think you can see better in the ones circled in this photo if you zoom. I’ve studied them in depth since I wondered whether this one was a rooster...

Thanks so much! It’s a prefab I did so much updating on I might has well have just built one!

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

I just figured a rooster would probably be growing them by this age but I don’t know if that would actually be the case - I was up in the air on my EEs for a while and it was one of the things I was told to look for.

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

I do have an old incubator in storage - I’ll have to bust it out!

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

Thank you! It was a gift from a friend (she got it on Amazon) - it’s perfect for snacks!

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

I’ve seen it on store eggs several times - I thought maybe they were fertilized but maybe they just look different sometimes! I really appreciate you looking!

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

Thank you so much - they are cool birds! It has been wildly hot so maybe that’s what did it. I appreciate you looking!

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

It was hot that day, but it wasn’t out there more than a few hours (cleaned the coop in the morning and found it early afternoon). Ive attached some pics - I’m pretty sure two of barred rocks are laying. The EEs would be most suspicious I guess, but the gray one still has a pale comb, and the...

Does this egg look fertilized? Thought I had all hens!

Hi everyone - long time lurker and finally made an account! I have 8 18-20 week old chickens, who I thought were all hens. Two recently started laying, and when I cracked open the first egg, I noticed the germinal disk looks like it has a ring around it/is fetrtilized based on pictures I’ve...
