Thank you so much for the info and the heads up about the grid. They can access the grass as well, but I'll make an area on the top as you suggest. Is that all the time, or just when they are young (that the grid is not great for them to stand on). I'll take better photos for identification...
Hello, new chick mom here and our six little ladies are about 4 weeks old and wondering if anyone can help match the photo to the any of the below breeds?
1) Ameraucana
2) Barred Rock - maybe with eye injury?
3) Black Copper Marans (pretty sure she’s the black one with feathered feet so didn’t...
Hi again, our little girl’s eye is still shut all the time but looks so much better from a swelling / infected perspective. Should I keep rinsing with saline and applying antibiotic ointment a few times a day? Any thoughts on bringing her to a local vet for treatment, or she just may need more...
Hi all, we got an Egg Cart’n chicken tractor and think it’s great but just wondering — when the chicks start spending the night outside, should I put one or two sides up for the chicks to feel more secure and keep them slightly warmer. Low temps right now are generally mid 60s. Thank you!
Just an update & a follow up question. Her eye is much less swollen but it’s still closed all the time. We are continuing the saline wash and antibiotic ointment 3-4 times a day. She still keeps to herself :( she’s often away from the other chicks, and she’s noticeably less active. Is this...
She is eating when she's not resting away from the other chicks, but I'll pay attention to make sure she's eating and drinking normally. Her eye was fine when we got her from Murray McMurray on June 26. She is the smallest of the 6 chicks so maybe a peck injury. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for your response! Yes, she will not open the eye on her own. When I try to gently open her eye there is some light yellow/white pus. I will try your recommended eye wash asap!
Hello! One of our 6 two-week old chicks was lethargic yesterday and now has one swollen eye. Does she need antibiotic cream and/or medicated feed? Maybe this is coryza? Are other chicks at risk? Thank you!
