Do I first apply glue to the teabag patch, pinch the edges together, and gently lay on top? With tweezers? May need another pair of hands to help me.
Slightly worried about the fumes from the superglue but I assume it's minor enough to not cause issue if not done in excess? She's asleep now but...
Poor girl got a minor beak fracture. No blood, doesn't seem like it's splitting terribly. I applied bag balm. I assume the brutal cold just made it brittle and she chipped it somewhere. Doesn't seem distressed but I noticed when she jumped up to a roost close to me when I was cleaning their...
All good, I understand the concern and it's good advice regardless. The exposed part is clothed, under the tarps is just chicken wire but my thought is an aerial predator would probably not think to rip the tarp up to reveal the weakness under. And if they do the chickens will have enough time...
Ah, the sides and parts of the top portions are fully hardware clothed up with a skirt on the outside. You can see it on the first pic. The chicken wire is just internal, but the cloth is outside of it. It's just the roof directly under the tarps that are pure chicken wire - which I kinda worry...
Hey all - my aluminum chicken run's roof poles got bent out of shape from the snow. The structure is still holding and I put some wood supports in for now to keep it sturdy for now. But I was wondering if anyone else has advice for how to go about reinforcing and replacing the parts here. I'm...
Me: *Worried about their run not being winterproof enough and attaching more tarps to block wind on an uncovered side*
Them: *Literally kicking around a block of ice on the ground and pecking it into edible bits*
Yeah, did more research and from how thin those sheets look I'm feeling like they'll warp/collapse over time if I put 2x4 roosts in them and also felt it was a bit on the smaller side. Feel like I'd be constantly worried in storms.
Seems my budget may have been too tight so I'll pull some extra...
Thinking of upgrading my coop. Currently I have a pre-fab coop that I'm worried doesn't have enough ventilation going into the winter even with a few modifications I've done.
I have 8 hens and I'm not very handy with building, so was thinking repurposing a storage shed would be a better option...
Not a nail or screw so the worst fear of it puncturing something internal seems resolved. I've had a similar scare before and from my research, it'll get gradually worn down in the gizzard and either come out with time or just hang in there becoming a part of the digestive system. They eat...
Sometimes I wet my chicken's food even if I'm not fermenting. They just love wet food more than dry. They gobble it up as if it's a treat when it's literally the same food they eat all the time lol.
Yeah, same here. I got some gravity dog feeders from Chewy that were on super discount clearance sale for like $2 each. Have them set up on opposite sides of their coop. The only annoyance to deal with is they kick bedding into them now and then even though they're elevated. But I usually just...
I was considering putting a 2x4 across the long side of my pre-fab, though I worry they'll be too close to the ventilation window (mine is similar to your bottom one, but has a vent window higher up). I'll toy around with the measurements this week, thanks!
Just wanna say - I like your setup with the two prefabs. Do you have the nesting boxes in the top one covered off so they don't lay in there? I have a prefab similar to the bottom one but felt like it wasn't enough space so built an extension to the back, but I may consider something like this...
I used fake eggs for my chickens, they immediately knew where to lay once they began. I don't quite know if they are too fond of the them though, because I often see them kicked out the nesting boxes, but I like keeping them in there anyway. At this point maybe the eggs are more to make me feel...
Ah, I have a similar setup but I usually use my local weather humidity to determine what it is outside. It seems pretty accurate - a lot of times my coop will be around the same level as it is outside according to my weather app. But I think I should get another sensor to be exact.
Thinking of ideas to keep my run dry and draft free in the winter - I see people cover their run in plastic sheets to do this.
Are greenhouse sheets the best material for this? Anyone have recommendations to get the best bang for my buck?
Happy to see he's doing better. Chickens are much more emotionally intelligent than people give them credit for, I'm sure he really went through it hard and maybe felt like he failed in his role as protector. But it's not his fault, and with time to heal he's looking like he's moving on.
Thank...
Thanks for the suggestions. She's doing well - I had her isolated for 3 days and it seems mostly healed. I've been letting her out daily for a few hours gated away from her flock so they can see her, and I introduced her yesterday back to the flock with some Hen Healer (thanks...
