What is Your Daily Feeding Routine?

The reason for this question is in regards to when we have someone come over and feed the 4 girls. I have a treadle feeder and they are not using it, no biggie. I'm feeding them twice a day, because I do not have a chicken feeder. Looks like I need to get one, where all 4 girls can eat at the...

Help! Need to refurbish inherited coop!

I would paint the corrugated metal roof with a white elastomeric paint. This will help keep the inside cooler during the summer by reflecting the sun rays. Elastomeric roof coating is a fluid-applied, rubber-like membrane that creates a seamless, waterproof, and flexible seal, protecting roofs...

    Soft Shell Egg is Interesting

It was a PITA to break up the oyster shells with a hammer, so I went to TSC. to talk to the "chicken lady" She said she puts some of the shells in a bowl of water and just lets the hens drink the water as they want to. I'm thinkin that this is also going to be a PITA. The shells I have were...

    Soft Shell Egg is Interesting

I don't think they are eating the oyster shells. Think I'll go dump them into a bag, take a hammer to them, as the shell pieces look too big..

    Soft Shell Egg is Interesting

2 of my 4 hens/pullets are starting to lay their eggs. The Leghorns eggs are all fine except on the small side. This morning I found an egg under the poop shelf on the bedding with the soft shell. Not sure which one layed it. Guess it's time to get rid of the "Start and Grow", having layer feed...

Before you build a coop, what are going to do when, 1. It rains and rains and rains? 2. When the temps are over 100 degrees for days? 3. When the temps get below freezing? 4. When it snows and your tarp covered run collapses? 5. When predators keep getting in the coop/run?
