    Coop near oleander bushes

I'm in Phx and have oleanders all around my back yard where my 4 chickens are. Yes, I know about how poisonous they are-the flowers more than the leaves. I had the same fears when we bought the house because I had a new baby (mammal, human type!) I don't think he ever ate a flower and I...

    Arizona Chickens

I bought my last bag of feed (grower finisher crumbles) at Western Ranch Store on 32nd St. between Greenway and Bell. They sell chicks and will special order chicks as well. I bought a couple of plastic threaded waterers there as well. I had been adding apple cider vinegar with the 'mother'...

Oleanders...will my chickens eat them and get sick?

Well, I'm getting less paranoid as time goes on about the oleanders. I'm going to provide LOTS of good feed and reduce free range time. I have a larger run covered 1/2 with shade screen now so that's good. I love my chickens! Cory and Nate (my son 9yrs old)

Thanks Gersbud. I guess I will free range them under supervision and keep them in the tractor most of the time.

Thank you to everyone who provides help to us newbies! I live in Phx Az and my property has a lot of shade from oleanders. I understand oleanders are poisonous to chickens. I was hoping to free range at least part of the day. Will chickens stay away from oleanders if I provide enough feed...

Thanks Nicole77. I do have questions about building my chicken tractor. I'll have the hutch over here this weekend. My question right now is, my shade is mostly oleanders. I understand they are poisonous. Will the chickens eat them if fed properly?? Should I be concerned? Thanks everyone...

Quote: Well, thanks for that rufus, but your response came late...I got 4 black australorps and 1 I don't know what colored for Easter that my kid had to have on Friday. Yes, I thought about color, but by then i had already caught chicken fever and that's all they had at Pratts (except for...

Hey thanks for the encouragement rufus! Good to know I probably won't end up in tent city over byc! What breeds are your favorites for az heat, etc. are there any smaller breeds that do well in the heat? I'm starting with a rabbit hutch and building a small run. Thanks! Cory

Thanks for that a2ms4chickens! So your rir's aren't very loud, huh? Getting 2 month olds for sexing sounds like a great idea. I like the idea of chicks but what to do if I end up w/ a rooster in the city? My neighbors are nice, but not that nice!

    Arizona Chickens

Hello BYC lovers! I'm in central Phx in an older neighborhood. Not sure what breed to get. I want good layers, but I'm not sure how the neighbors will react to a noisy breed. Also, is Pratts not great for chicks?? Are there breeders who do better with sexing? I'm starting with an old...
