Ok, thanks for the responses. Only problem is mine will not be free ranging at least not at first and never all the time. The coop size is approximately 4' x 5' with an additional 4' x 16' run. They will be in each others company most of the time.
I am about to introduce a young (1year old) breeding pair of BCM's to my flock of one 7 month BCM hen that hasn't been around other chickens. I am looking for advice as to the best way to approach this.
Should I keep them separated and for how long, just throw them together right away or...
Well I just lost the last BCM that survived the cocci and what I thought was a respiratory infection. I happened to be out by the coop changing water and she just flipped over on her back and died. I am at a complete loss as to what caused this. None of them had ever been exposed to other...
This sounds so much like what my one remaining chick has. Seems healthy other than sneezing/coughing. Duramycin treatment is over and she(I think) still has the same symptoms except the eye is not shut anymore and is clear. Should I go ahead and get the Tylan(?) shot? I am really at a loss...
I am wondering the same thing. I plan on using a 5 gallon bucket as the tank on the outside of the coop/run and then waterline out to the individual nipples on the inside.
I made a composter out of a 55 gallon plastic barrel and put banana peels, orange peels, lftovers from kitchen (onions, tomatoes, basically anything but meat) coffee grounds, peanut hulls etc. One day I opened it and lo and behold it was literally crawling with the little buggers. I have since...
3rd day of Duramycin-10 treatment. 5 week old chick still about the same...eating, drinking water, poop looks healthy, active and responsive. Still wheezing though and the one eye is still shut more often than not. the symptoms do not fit anything I've found. they fit some of many things but...
I had a similar problem with mine being lethargic, just standing with head drooped and not really eating or drinking. I noticed a few bloody poops and was informed by some here that it was very likely coccidiosis (sp?). I started treating all 6 of them immedietaly with corrid but it was...
Well the one left seems to be over the cocci and is eating and drinking well but now has an eye that is shut and wheezes a little when roosting. There is no foul odor. I suspect a respiratory infection. That is what I thought the first one had and was treating them all for that last weekend...
