Barred Rocks ROCK! No questions about that! I grew up around them and I used to have one that actually rode on the back of my saddle when I rode my horses. Now I live in Oakland and my favorite chickens which come out to greet me every morning are the Plymouth Barred and the Brahmas! Love them!
I have one tiny 'lil brown silky hen which I hatched underneath an old broody RIR hen last spring. But I'll tell ya, That 'lil silky girl bosses all 30 RIR's, buffys, coppers, plymouths, leghorns,and brahmas around all day long! I want more! They are absolutely ADORABLE!
You know you're addicted to chickens when you have 27 of them, you know all of their names and ages, you bring some of your favorite ones inside on occasion to sit on your lap and listen to music with them. Sometimes you actually sleep with them and when you call their names, they come a'runnin'.
You know you LOVE your chicken ladies when you actually grow organic leafy greens in your garden for them and feed them 5 gallon buckets of worms from your compost pile. YUM! I mean, bak! Bak! Bak!
