    Actually the cockerel doesnt have any pin feathers, its just fuzz, then pullet with also have the fuzz but with pin feathers.

    I cant say for sure on a silkie. We are just getting the hang of them. They are different than other fowl with their fur like feathers. Hatcheries wont even sex silkies due to that.     Depending how old the chick is. When they are a day old we start at the base of the wing next to the body. As the chick gets older we move out the wing until we have to check the end feathers as you are showing. That looks like a cockerel from the photo.

    I never said it didnt produce light. Its a giant light bulb that produces heat, of course there is going to be light. The red is what helps them stay calmer. Everything dosent work for everyone. They work for me. Thats all I can say.
