    when mine started i had one in the grass outside, one on the roost platform and one on top of the 'spare' portable nest box.. since then all have been in the regular boxes with 2 EE's and 2 black australorps laying in the same box (at different times). rich

    had our first 4 egg day. our EE, Fork, the runt of the flock is our favorite and squats for us all the time. she lays pretty blue eggs. here is a pic of her starting to squat when i reached for her slowly.

    who would have known chickens would be addicting! we literally have hundreds of pictures of ours. and movies. we got them when they were a week old and today is their 22 week birthday. we have 5 black australorps and 3 EE's. only 2 EE's are laying and 1 black australorp. we keep hoping for more...

    if you'd like i can go take a picture of one doing the 'squat'. they also will carry their wings out when they get hot. they pant, too. we put ice in the water when it gets hot out. that seems to help a lot. here's one of our eggs. rich

    ah ha! one of my favorite chicken experts in the world would probably tell you that the roo knows! she should probably be laying soon. nature has a way of telling them when it's time. keep an eye out for the egg that will be coming soon. rich

    the 'squat' is when the hen is ready for a roo to do his thing. she will squat down and stay there waiting and you can pet her without her running away. just try to put one hand on her back quickly and see what she does.

    i see on the treats chart that it's okay to feed seedless grapes. is it okay to take the seeds out of mustang grapes and still feed the rest of the grapes or is there something in the grapes that will hurt them? thanks. rich
