hmmmmm..Don't think I got what I asked for, whatya think?

I finally figured out what these chickens are. I went to the feed store and asked a few questions. Anyway, they are Amber Stars. Don't know much about them, but I hear they are good layers.

    Easter Egger/Aracauna Rooster Temperment

Thanks so much for the info. My kids will be happy to hear they need to hold him more. They love to hold the chicks. I wouldn't think to push him around or not give him treats like the rest, i'd never heard of that before. We will give him every chance we can. I'm hoping he will be a good...

    Easter Egger/Aracauna Rooster Temperment

So I got 10 baby chicks about 4 weeks ago. We got 2 Plymoth Barred Rocks, 2 New Hampshire Reds, 2 mystery birds (supposed to by wyandottes, but they aren't), and 4 Aracaunas. 1 of the Aracaunas has the distinguishing puffy cheeks that I hear they are supposed to have the others don't so i'm...

hmmmmm..Don't think I got what I asked for, whatya think?

Oh I-Have-happy-hens, I sure hope you are right. We really wanted BOs but they "said" they didn't have any. I just don't want them to be leghorns. I have a timid little girl that probably won't tolerate flighty squawking leghorns very well.

Sex Or Breed (barred Rock, Rir, Or Sexlink)

The dark chicks look just like our Barred Rocks. The other i'm not sure but probably RIR. Can't help you on the sex though.

hmmmmm..Don't think I got what I asked for, whatya think?

#1 #2 #3 #1 I'm pretty sure is supposed to be a New Hampshire Red, which is what I asked for. What about #2 and #3 (same chick). I'd asked for Silver Laced Wyandotte. I'm 100% sure they aren't that. What do you think?

Don't think I got what I asked for...

So we went to the local feed store and waited in line for 2 hours to get our chicks. They were sold out of some of the ones that we wanted by the time our number was called. Anyway, I asked for 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks (I know I got these, black with white spot on head), 4 Aracanas (pretty sure...

    So bummed...hen crowed this morning

So I'm wondering how often this happens? It sounds like pretty darn often. We are picking up our first 10 chicks at the feed store on Wednesday. I would love to avoid a roo if at all possible. A friend of mine who is an old hat at raising chickens told me a funny story. She always gets a...

Is it normal to be a NERVOUS WRECK?

I LOVE this thread! And i'm so glad you posted it Amylou. We are getting 8 chicks on April 5th and I had no idea it was so nerve-wracking. I'm glad to know ahead of time! I'm also a little bummed, my new son has just started letting us sleep all night, and now it sounds like I will be awoken...

Starting my first coop next week. Wish me luck!!

We are doing the same as you ASAP! We are so excited. We have been looking at all the designs on BYC as well. I am going to go with a coop similar to the Triple C that won 1st place in the coop contest. My 8 x 12 covered run with the coop will be inside a 20 x 20 fenced area for "free...

Do you wait out the moult?

We are just starting our chicken adventure this Spring. We get our chicks on April 5th. I know many people that own chickens and i'm wondering.... Do you wait out the moult or replace the chicken when she starts. I know some people that replace the chicken when she starts because they are...

    OSB for chicken coop walls?????

Quote: Oooo, I would not use OSB for *flooring* of a coop. Its lifespan will be precarious and the problem is that floors experience a lot more dampness *and* bear a whole lot more weight than the walls, so their failure if made of OSB is both likelier AND more of a problem. If it's too late...

    OSB for chicken coop walls?????

Thanks everyone. The coop will be up off the ground at least 2 feet. I am going to cover the inside floor with linoleum that we have left over. My kids will be thrilled to be in charge of painting all the OSB. I will also follow the advice to caulk all the seams and it will have roof...

    OSB for chicken coop walls?????

We are currently planning our first coop and are incredibly excited. All I need is for the snow to melt and the ground to thaw so I can move some dirt and get building. Anyway, while gathering materials, I am finding that OSB is much cheaper then plywood. Will the chickens peck at it and/or...
