I just received an email promoting Purina feed.
My understanding is that Purina uses MGO products. Can anyone confirm this?
Also, is there an opt-out for emails with ads?

Two tips:
1. I had to rescreen my chicken tractor because the 1" hex-type chicken screen would allow our small finches in Hawaii to eat the food.
2. Due to uneven ground I had to chink the bottom rails of my rolling 8' x 12' chicken tractor after each move so as to prevent mongoose from...
Update about neck growths.
I cut back 50%, —from two handfuls in the morning and 2 more in the evening to one in the morning and another in the evening and all the growths were gone within 24 hours.
Much appreciation to all,
Kerry
Thanks all.
Four chicks, very mixed colors, Hawaii backyard kine. Free-range mother died within three days but not before the chicks learned to eat cracked corn out of my hand. I suspect the hen died from a dog or a car. It's been a week now and the cat hasn't got them yet. They follow me...
Hi JennsPeeps & Ridgerunner,
I'm certainly guilty of feeding them too much corn. I keep their corn feeder full most of the the time, consequently they don't eat as much layer pellets. Everytiem I add corn I add two 1/4 cup piles of oyster shells

I have four barred rocks which I raised from baby chicks. They are about 16 months old. They average three eggs per day. I don't know if one is laying two and one perhaps has never laid but occasionally I'll have a a four-egg day.
They get lots of cracked corn, oyster shells, and layer pellets...
Hi babyspice35,
Re: "... was it kinda junk? As in was it like a thrown-together-with-stuff-from-the-backyard?" Could be, but I saw it on a recent post here about new new coops. Another on the same thread used OSB on the sides. That's why I wrote.

Hi Omran,
I have four barred rocks (good for both laying and eating though mine are pets). I average 3 eggs per day. They are relatively quiet. They do very well in my home made 8 x 10 chicken tractor that I've put on lawnmower wheels and move around the yard.
The pic is when they were between...
I saw two new coops here using oriented strand panels, one for the roof. Here in Hawaii it's a no no to use this material because it splits and swells and comes apart after a few years.
Most everyone who has this material for their older kitchen cupboards can't even take it to the recycle bin...

I am going to mix my own feed, and I, since I want to go totally organic, am going to get grains from whole foods. however, I am under no illusions that it will be cheap. but my parents are paying for the feed, and my mom is the one who insists on going totally organic, so I'm not gonna...

Way cool.
I giggled about "chicks in my bathroom." Being a hermit I raised mine in the living room. Twice daily now I spend about five mins sitting with them in their chicken tractorthey jump up on me, each has a favorite spot, one always tucks her head between my arm and body, one...
How sad.
I'd sure cry if one of mine died. I don't know how I'd replace a same age one if one did die. Perhaps just get along with three.
A friend lost all 9 over night. He can't imagine that he left the latch open so his mind is temped to think it was chicken rustlers.

Thanks Opa,
I keep a small heap of ground oyster shells in the corn dispenser and another heap in the layer feed dispenser. I've been doing that since they were 4 months old.
I'm glad to know it's a common phenomenon.

Thanks, good idea.
The 8' x 10' chicken tractor is only 50% shaded with corrugated roofing, hopefully they are getting enough sunshine.
I gave them ricotta cheese one time and they loved it.

Thanks so very much Lewis, I'll see if our local stores carry
