I got better pics of the 18 week old production red x crested cream legbar...I'm holding out a little hope for this one since 18 weeks may be close to POL for this hybrid and the body doesn't say roo yet to me...also, I'm hoping for lots of green eggs ;)
It sounds like the consensus is...
This one (foreground) is also through the 1/4" cloth so maybe to hard, but it's a crested cream legbar over production red and I'm not sure cockerel or pullet. Comb is dark and obvious, but body shape and feathers say pullet to my rookie eye.
Thank you both for trying to help :)
A) I'm horrible at pics
B) I didn't have time to take the chicken out...I'm not sure these are any better!
C) I can try again tomorrow
I never put DE in my deep litter...kills the good soil bugs.
I keep water in the run and the chickens will go out for it. Granted, I live in TX so they never have serious weather to contend with, but I think chickens will go out in the snow for water. You will need to keep it from freezing in...
Cliffsdad, your chicks are beautiful...and much cleaner than mine LOL
I just snapped these pics and they just covered their chests in a bit of a mess of fermented feed so excuse the dirty feathers! ;)
4.5 weeks
Sapphire # 1 (Moon)
Sapphire #2 (Lefty)
Sapphire #3 (Ladybug)
Anyone...
I separated out your points that I'll address...
[1] good to know!
[2] yes. Chopped garlic and herbs are always free choice, not in the FF
[3] they're on deep litter in the coop and run, but I can add sod more often
[4] dang. I'll see if she starts to thrive, but I won't hold my breath and am...
And I have three CCLxWL (sapphires) that are also straight run. They are the two predominantly white chicks in this pic.
Any idea when gender will be obvious?
And this is a CCL x production red (foreground) and pure CCL (background)
Not sure yet on gender
This was at about 2.5 weeks
If female, she should lay true green eggs according to breeder
This is supposed to be a pullet.
CCLxWelsummer (I think in that order)
About 3 weeks old here
I'm looking forward to the Olive eggs enough to name her Olive :D
That's good to hear. I barely use any now, but do have food grade DE. I read a few blogs where they were adding to custom food mixes at about 2% for internal parasite control and I've never added to my mix so I was curious.
Symptoms
I have one 9 week old chick with vent gleet and one 4 week old...
Thanks!
I guess the grass pic doesn't have a size comparison which probably doesn't help, either. "She" probably has some bantam in her mix, too, as she's kinda squat. I'm very sure on the dates. I couldn't post the 8 week one right away while the site was down and I took the three on the roost...
